I could easily see a devout JW saying...."Well......Jacob used deceit to trick his father into blessing him in lieu of Esau.....and obviously Jehovah approved........so yeah.....I could easily see the society using incorrect information to teach us. Who are we to question why Jehovah approved of Jacob's use of deceit? Likewise....who are we to question why Jehovah would allow a false teaching to be presented to his sheep as a "present truth".

And there you have it. That's all a JW needs to keep swallowing the blue pill

outsmartthesystem - Jacob and Esau, that's the best they could do?!

I would have been embarrassed to offer that as a precedent for increased light, even during my deepest indoctrination!

She used that argument against the 1975 fiasco...saying that the society probably never saw the verse that says 'no one will know the time or day' (Matthew 24:36).

Prior to 1975, I was actually told by a true-believer in that date that the Bible said we would not know the day or the hour - but that it did not say we would not know the year.

I am pretty sure that after 1975 came and went, he suddenly became one of those who denounced witnesses for "running ahead of the organization" and making this up all on their own.

Actually cedars they have adressed this on a talk a few years ago given by the co during his visit.

They used the apostles after jesus death. They claim that the apostles had wrong expectations as to jesus return being immediate, but they were still his channel for communication until they got it right. Gotta hand it to those sneaky bastards.... Of course from a theological point of view thats bogus anyway. They hadnt recieved holy sprit (tm) yet and therefore hadnt been inspired. These fools claim to be inspired and "sprit directed". Thats a huge differance between them and the apostles.

    Truth dosent change.

How did they come up with the idea that the apostles became his only channel of communication?

What do they base that one on?

My mom said, "the society probably never saw the verse that says 'no one will know the time or day' (Matthew 24:36). "

WTF?!? Some "Bible Students" they are if they "missed" that one.

How could anyone possibly think some-one/group would be chosen by Christ to lead his people if they "missed" a scripture like that?!? That's only 9 short verses away from the one that they claim proves they are the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" for goodness sakes.

Was your mom serious?!? That's just stupid.

Cedars: Basically, the Governing Body wants the best of both worlds. They want the authority and respect that comes with being God's organization, but none of the responsibility for getting things wrong. You simply can't have it both ways.

Exactly. Well said Cedars. Duh! That is SO OBVIOUS and yet we all fell for their stupidity at one time or another.

"I would have been embarrassed to offer that as a precedent for increased light, even during my deepest indoctrination!"

Some are more indoctrinated than others. I am willing to bet that even in your most indoctrinated state......you were still a THINKER. REASON dictates that the above example is ridiculous.....which is why someone like you would have trouble stomaching it. There are different levels of indoctrination within this cult. There are those that want explanations like the Bereans. These people are trouble makers. There are those that have trouble accepting weak and unbiblical explanations from the society. These people are better than the trouble makers but still aren't fully indoctrinated. Then there are the ones that happily accept any and all explanations......rationalize anything and everything to support the organization and happily use the thought stopping cliche "who are we to question Jehovah's organization?" when they cannot explain their position on a matter.

It is these latter ones that proudly use the Jacob vs Esau example. And if the person they are talking to doesn't accept it as being a perfect example of Jehovah using improper teachings in a proper way (I can't believe I just said that).....then obviously that person isn't "being drawn by Jehovah".

I am telling you man.......my FIL is the perfect indoctrinated JW. If the governing body came to his house and executed his family he would say "wow....they must have been practicing some sort of horrible secret sin. I wasn't expecting that....but who am I to question the righteous activities of Jehovah's organization?" He would then think it is his duty to help them engage in theocratic warfare by covering up the slaughter.
