LV, I remember one jw speaker holding up the old green NWT and saying that if the Society said it was black, it was black.

I remember, though I honestly know if I remember actually hearing a co say it at an assembly, or if I just think so because someone else reported it, but I think I heard it myself, anyway, a CO at an assembly said if the Society said to jump off a cliff, he'd ask, "How high?"

blondie - Cacky --- I remember those lines but not a 'green' NWT. I have got to print off info for my ex-witness friend that points out all the mistranslations in NWT because I worry she'll run back in because of a couple of so called friends. She believes the NWT is exactly the same as the King James which she used to study w/witnesses comparing texts. I think she'll read what I copy off once I take the time to locate.

The line that always rattled me was the one not to rely on your own understanding --- OMG! Then why do we have a brain/Duh. I could never buy the one about only religion having the truth --- well, I certainly had not compared or knew and how could anyone else if they'd never researched other faiths themselves. That was the biggest red flag.

    It's such a scary cult.

I remember a comment at the Watchtower study about how sometimes "the slave" may test our loyalty by steering us in the wrong direction. This was done intentionally to test our obedience.

This comment was given by a sister whom I find to be intelligent. But,I just couldn't believe what I was hearing as the elder conducting the Watchtower lesson whole-heartedly agreed with the comment.

I've heard a family member compare the governing body to Jesus. The brain-washing is working. I hope they wake up one day.

I'd like to read an account of Jesus giving wrong directions to his apostles just to see how obedient they were.

I guess that explains the over-lapping thing.

I also wonder what new ones think when they keep hearing from the platform,"faithful slave" or just "the slave". Weird cult speak.

We had a CO hold up a Bible and say: "This is not negotiable!"

He then held up a Watchtower and said........................... "This is not negotiable!"

So according to him the Watchtower was/is on the same level as the Bible.

The December 15, 2008 Watchtower on page 28 states:

“Our coming to know “the truth” – the entire body of Christian teachings that has become part of the Bible – and adhering to it are essential for salvation.”

“The truth” refers to all the teachings and doctrines of the Watchtower Society. Of course, the Watchtower Society instructions to Jehovah’s Witnesses include the notion that their teachings encompass “the entire body of Christian teachings”.

Respecting the statement quoted above not only is the Watchtower Society claiming that following their teachings are essential for salvation, additionally “the entire body of Christian teachings” such as information and doctrine found in the Watchtower magazine, has become part of the Bible
