That's the latest I heard at the current convention I'm attending now. It came straight from the Bethel Representative. I was in the administration department when I heard him say it.

Part of the reason for this according to him will be to reduce distribution cost as it would be virtually eliminated in countries like the U.S, Canada. He also said that it would also be to further promote the new website which is supposedly going to have a dedicated children's section. Yikes!

He also stated that DVD copies would still be available for countries where the Internet is not as accessible.

He said that they really want to push the Internet as it has proven to be very effective "when kept under control".

With all of the changes that the organization has been making in the recent years -the public and study editions of the watchtower, the simplified versions, the new songs whose vocal renditions have a faint touch of modern Christendom, getting heavily into the real estate business, having plans to build and expand up to at least the year 2020 despite their claim of the end being "very soon", the recent change of heart for the Internet, the credit card machine donations, the new arrangement of giving the brothers the "great" opportunity to give all of their money, homes, personal possessions to the organization upon death (basically putting them in their will), the confidetial letters about every little thing, etc.- it really makes it all look more like a business than a religion.

Not that it wasn't in the past but I feel like they are no longer trying to hide it.

It feels, at least to me, like the religion is slowly evolving into something else entirely.

Only time will tell but I just have that feeling.

It just makes me so sad that none of the witnesses seem to notice the changes.

What do you all (ex-jws, faders, current members, newcomers, old timers) believe about all these changes the organization is making?

Most of the sheeple in my old congregation don't have computers or the Internet. My parents aren't online and have no interest in getting online. They are annoyed by WT's Internet strategy.

I am very pleased the society is at last encouraging use of the internet. More and more witnesses and their studies will be surfing and will come accross the many other websites that talk about JWs but show the downside of being a witness.

alanv I agree it is very encouraging indeed! You can't control the internet or courosity 100%. Even the most innocent google searches will bring xJW/Apostate sites up. I liken it to the big red acme button that says "Dont Push!" on it. Of course they are gonna push it!!

I believe many notice, but like you are afraid to speak out, take a stand and leave the borg. Like you they hope maybe one day they'll be free.

One would almost suspect they got a hold of the megachurch business manual and decided to implement it in their own way.

And thus Caleb leads the way for ALL Watchtower publications sometime in the near future...

Probably (sadly) Sparlock will never be mentioned again.

WBT$ Information you can only get on the Internet?..

That cuts out the Old JW`s..

Young JW`s will surf the net and find places like this..

    The WBT$ makes another Decision..

But they would be SAVING MONEY, Outlaw!!! That is the IMPORTANT THING, after all...

Of course, it leaves the question of what to do about the Watchtower Study, with no paper watchtower in hand.

Maybe they can put them on Kindle...

Maybe they can put them on Kindle...

It is becoming increasingly popular for people to bring their Kindle / Nook / whatever to the KH with a downloaded PDF Watchtower.

They actually sent a letter to BOEs sometime within the past year, saying that elders shouldn't take their electronic tablets on the platform, they had to read from the Bible, Watchtower, etc. from the printed page if in front of the congregation.
