I don't know how it is that the Catholics come up with exactly the opposite idea.

This wt made me sick to the stomach, so sick that I ended up sitting in a hot car for some of it instead of being in thac in the hall. Thanks blonde!
lost, I would avoid next week then.
Hi Blondie! I skimmed through the next study article, and I agree its as equally bad as this one...funny how they believe that their marriages fare better than everyone else's and UBS because if bible principals??? Funny at the meeting on Sunday I just got news of one jw sister (who's elder husband already left her) sleped with another jw.brother (who by the way is married to a nice jw women) this has lead to another divorce, the real unfortunate part of this story is that this is not an uncommon circumstance, jw marriages break up just like non jw marriages...and ps, I won't be attending the meeting Sunday
Did anyone ever hear of a couple wanting to get married studying the Family Happiness book with an elder?
JakeM2012: I laughed when I saw your post. I received that book from the female witness I was interested in. I didn't read one page. It's somewhere at home, collecting dust.
The elder in question was like 18 years my junior. Sorry, but - perhaps unfairly - I didn't think he could teach me anything. Particularly since he was single and the Watchtowerily Correct thing to do was to think he had never had sex before.
The longer I am away from the 'truth', the more painful and ridiculous these articles are.
Why doesn't the WT talk about the true state of women in the OT and the NT, basically slavery?
For a man to stay single in Paul's day was one thing, he was still at the top of the social pile.
Women who stayed single however really did dodge a bullet.
Dale Martin, Yale professor of NT studies, makes the case that for a woman to marry, even in Paul's day, was to sign up for constant pregnancy, household work and low social status, being the property of her husband and also the head of household, basically the family's master.
In Pau's day, no birth control, no appeal for basic human rights, no social equality, no protection from a violent husband.
So for a woman, much more of a 'gift' to stay single.
Today, what is the motivation to stay single, for either men or women, unless that is their personal choice? How are they benefited spiritually?
WT loves to make martyrs, whether they bleed out or just stay single for 'Jehovah'.
dgp, too funny, I guess you didn't end up with the sister? Personally, I didn't get married for spiritual reasons, but I can just imagine the iceberg in the relationship when your given a fam book to study.
Interesting what Witnesses study for. In addition to "studying" to become married, ms's will study to become an elder. "Where's your husband", wife, "he's studying to become an elder". Oh, right. He's looking at porn.
I find the "Secret of Family Happiness" to be an effective anti-witness for those regular people unfortunate enough to fall in love with a Witness. Especially for women.
Jake: Nope, no uneven yoke for her. She married in the Lord. I honestly hope he is a good man.
JGNat: I wouldn't know. I didn't read anything beyond the title. Her biological sister asked me to read something on the web, so I came upon it, and then the witness gave it to me. I sort of thought I could get to know something about her way of thinking, but since things didn't work out.... No, I didn't read it.
