If two people are on Skype, they can chat/video -- no matter the geography.

This is of course dependent on their ISP and other Internet backbone limitations and constraints.

If you want to call phone numbers, then there is a cost for the telco gateway. I pay $5 (us) per month for unlimited calls within the US.

    I love Skype.

But WARNING : What you are talking over there isn't private anymore!

RBIH said " i will say, the android skype is rather terrible. for some stupid reason, it only uses speakerphone and they still haven't fixed that bug."

Since Microsoft bought Skype I'd say that it's unlikely they're very excited about fixing any Skype bugs on Android, maybe even bugging it on purpose ;-) They should change their name to Monopolysoft and be more upfront. Heh heh!

I talk with my sister in Spain twice a month, from California. Sound is usually decent, though sometimes there is a network drop. We can cam too, though my netbook seems underpowered for the latest skype version and that makes the audio choke. I used to make weekly voice calls to our very own lovely LouBelle in South Africa when she had a landline available. I miss our voice chats a lot.

I use Google voice for domestic calls to landlines, as it is free.

I also once saw Farkel rapell down a mountain. Darn fool almost got ate up by a cougar while doing it, but I made a skype call to a friend in the media and the News 8 helicopter scared the cougar away.

You can use it to call anyone in the world as long as they also have Yahoo, free and very clear.

I'm not keen on Skype.. I find it a little out dated.
