We go (we're not forced) to the doctors (professionals) for our own benefit - and they have OUR best interests at heart. JCs are forced upon ''us'' by amateurs and usually to our detriment. The Elders/GP comparison is not logical (we don't 'mix' with our GPs on a regular/'social' basis, so we never have 'personal' issues with them) There seems to be a bit of a theme lately where Elders are being 'promoted' to be on a par with professionals - I suppose the Society wants the R&F to view them more in an elevated position.
Latest WT: "Refusing to appear before a JC is like refusing medical treatment"

The elders have no jurisdiction over anyone.
The only authority they have is what each individual JW allows them to have. And as Sir82 pointed out, the problem of individual dubs no longer allowing that authority is rampant enough that they have to print a warning about it.
Even though the paragraph pisses me off, I guess it's good that more and more JWs are asserting themselves and refusing to adhere to various WT rules.

They have to address this because it's a real issue for them. Elders don't have the authority they used to have. The rank and file is not as subservient as it used to be. It ain't the 1950s anymore....

In many countries, an adult has the right to refuse any medical treatment he/she see fit, it is the patient's choice. The USA even has patients rights, that cannot be violated. It would be nice if the Borg issued 'rank and file' rights so everyone would know exactly what they were dealing with, including 'the right to refuse treatment by the elders and be left alone'.

I like this account in paragraph 9:
9 A Christian’s spirit may also be tested if he is corrected or is relieved of privileges in the congregation. One young brother was tactfully counseled by the elders about playing violent video games. Sadly, he did not receive the counsel well and had to be deleted as a ministerial servant because he no longer met the Scriptural quali?cations. (Ps. 11:5; 1 Tim. 3:8-10) Afterward, the brother made it widely known that he did not agree, repeatedly writing letters critical of the elders to the branch office and even in?uencing others in the congregation to do the same. It is really counterproductive, though, for us to jeopardize the peace of the entire congregation in an attempt to justify our actions. How much better to view reproof as a way to open our eyes to see weaknesses that we were not aware of and then quietly accept the correction. —Read Lamentations 3:28, 29.
Sounds like a cool dude! LOL.

This is yet more mind control from the WT, the JC is there to "help" you, like f**k, they are there to find a way to DF you, as has been said , any true help could have been done by a shepherding call or three, but no, you can go years without one of those, the slightest whiff that they can DF you three Elders, and some reserves waiting in the wings, cannot wait to DF you. "Help" my arse !
I am beginning to think that, though I have achieved the perfect fade, ( don't ask, I cannot reveal the method, perhaps by P.M if I know you), that it would be better for my sanity and my personal peace if I simply wrote a letter of DA, and had done with it.
The problem is I have a very vulnerable family member who, if unable to talk with me, see me and be hugged by me may be left bereft of any help or real genuine human contact.
Tough call for me, am I selfish, or selfless ? At least I feel as though I have a choice, some do not.
It is obvious that the method I used to avoid a J.C and other methods are actually working, and the WT think that those who have only partially woken up will be fooled by the silly propaganda they are trying, I doubt many will fall for that, no matter how short your acquaintance with the WT you know that three Elders sitting in judgement on you cannot turn out well for you.
This latest from the W.T is as silly as the R.C church claiming that the Inquisition and Torquemada were simply there to "help" the poor souls in medieaval Spain.

@baltar - Yeah props to the video game guy! He's probably on this board by now!
Anyway, this illustration is stupid on so many levels. First of all, they pretty much give away what they are doing by what they call it - "JUDICIAL" committee. Its not "confession" or "spiritual assistance" It is a forum for them to dispense cult-justice.
Next, already noted several times but the dudes running these things have no business dealing with the problems they are dealing with. The majority of cases involve fragile human beings, and all these guys know how to do is DF them, cutting off any support they might have. Yet the branch has to send it out in a letter that if someone is contemplating suicide, stop the JC but don't recommend any REAL HELP.
Sounds to me like the rank and file are getting sick of this shit. GOOD! Word spreads quicker than ever in the org about the hypocritical behavior of elders and servants, and no doubt people are saying: "Hey Brother Feelgood there confessed to watching porn for years, but he's still an elder. Why should I let hem sit in judgement over me and my decision to have a few beers too many one night." GOOD AGAIN!
The more people stand up in the org and simply say "thanks but no thanks" to these elders the less power they have.

I told them, "I have no need to meet with you". They said they would DF me if I didn't. I told them I've done nothing to be DF'd for. So, instead of being fired, I simply quit. Gezz they hated that...
