:Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor?
    Will Power,

If you're speaking of the God of the bible, I say that he doesn't have one whit of humor.

:The bible also talks of God making the wise man foolish, meaning the ones trying to prove everything.

LOL. Yeah. History and life experience and this discussion board and this thread show me over and over: wise people are able to prove things, and idiots spout foolishness to no end.

So maybe that scripture will be proven true in the end; it certainly hasn't proven true in the time since it was written. But since the bible is demonstrably NOT from a supernatural source, I'm not holding my breath, and I'm certainly not putting off trying to learn, to prove....everything.

“Only a religionist would agree that the Bible is "complicated." Many other people and scholars have delved into the Bible and find it not complicated, but messed up and full of contradiction and error.”

That’s true but only in the opinion of many scholars who are delving into it with an agenda, to either credit it or discredit it. Other scholars have found it to be accurate. The point is there is argument, who’s right, who’s wrong? Shouldn’t someone have conceded by now?

“It seems to me that a perfect God would be able to provide more definite guidance for humans.”

Could have or would have? Of course he could have. He could have made it real easy and programmed us like animals to just worship him. If that were the case we wouldn’t have to examine anything. Just eat, sleep, poop, and worship. But we aren’t like animals. We can make choices. Completely trust our own minds (and they are definitely flawed) or use reason to figure out where to put our faith?

    LOGICAL
“plmkrzyMatthew 7:12 explains it so clearly. "All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you must likewise do to them; this, in fact, is what the Law and the Prophets mean.”

You think this was one of the messages NIMROD thinks Jesus was delivering to him and his fallen angles?

    OZZIE
“Sorry Crazy Plum,It's the borg that's convinced you that the Bible is complicated and needs to be constantly 'explained'.The Bible really presents a simple message. It's the WTS that complicates things by seeking to interpret every last word, usually as applying to themselves.Take the other 'keep it simple' approach. It's much more refreshing.Cheers,”

I’m not going to disagree with that but I think the Catholics cornered the market on who was allowed to understand it’s message but the Jews started it.

    Hey there GOPHER

”If I am to have FAITH, which man-made religion will instruct me in the best method of having such FAITH?”

I think, IMO anyway, That’s where people have constantly screwed up. Confusing what faith really is. It would be unreasonable to put faith in another mans interpretation of the bible because there will always be discrepancy’s. There always has been.

    “Please don't tell me there is a God-made religion. I haven't seen one.J.R.”

    Not hardly.
I do think that there is a God-made way to figure it out and it’s pretty easy to do but impossible without faith. Otherwise, IMO, he would have prevented the Bible from being translated into so many different ways. Kind of like not seeing the forest, to many tree’s in the way.
People are like a bunch of squirrels trying to examine all the nuts in the forest looking for the meaning of life.

”If theoretical concepts aren't clear, why have faith in them?”

But technically that is having faith, but in your own ability to completely understand something. That’s a choice. It’s reasonable to play it safe.

“Let's say I told you, 'The khhaie moon hagden kcoar grean to be sklarted'. Your first reaction is that it's gobbledegook. But then i said god told me that, and only people w faith would get it, and the rest are lost, you would still say it's gobledegook.”

Yes I would. And that does happen all the time.
    Larsguy for example.

“And so, take away faith, then you have a chance to see the bible for what it really is.”

I disagree with that because you can’t see the Bible for what it really is without faith Unless you only want to see an old book that was written by a bunch of old guys a long time ago.

”Either something is, or it isn't, faith is not required. If one isn't sure, that's ok. Why should anyone be forced to take sides?”

No one should be forced to take sides and I don’t think we are. I like being able to make my own choices. I don’t want anyone to try and take that right away from me.

“If it's too complex to under stand, then god blew it. Though it's true that there is occult in it.SS”

    Blunt is good. LOL

I personally don’t find it to difficult to understand, but then I’m not constantly digging into the deep hidden meanings behind everything in it. I don’t want to. I like reading it and thinking about what I’ve read but I don’t challenge it.
And your right about the occult being in it that should be obvious. We wouldn’t have occult religions if we never had the Bible.

    Thanks PPLS for the response.

I would still like to know though why brilliant minds for century’s still argue about how to correctly read the Bible. [J]

To understand the Bible you need the help of the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately when you decided to leave Jehovahs Organization, Jehovah's spirit no longer resides in you. That is why so many are confused in this forum. Everyone throws all kinds of explanations and reasonings on scriptures. Some just don't believe the Bible any longer. Really, it's very sad. See, Jehovah can see what is in our heart. Jehovah refines his own people and basically cleans out the trash. That's what he does with apostates. He sees the pride in their hearts blinding them. He sees their rebellious behaviour toward his annointed servants. And he makes a house cleaning.

I have been cleansed out too, for I am disfellowshipped. But I deserved the discipline and I am trying to reconsile with Jehovah.

Blah blah blah - read that crap in about 400 WTs before. Can't you come up w/ anything original? Oh right, the answer is "NO" since you are not allowed to think for yourself w/out 'mommas' help. If Jehovah is 'refining' 'his people' then he's doing a really piss-poor job. You want pride? Check out the nearest elder's meeting at your local KH.

I can't wait for the JW house cleaning. I predict there will be about 3 JWs left once 'god' 'cleans' house.

From my experience and understanding The Bible is not complicated. The text itself is simple and can be read and obtain information from. I do think that if it's to mean anything to a person you need faith in the true God. Before I was a christian and while I was a JW, I read the Bible out of trying to prove I was 'good'. I read the words but didn't understand anything. Half the time I had no idea what i had just read and occasionally I'd grasp the storyline but it meant nothing to me. It was disconnected from my reality.

When I decided I cared what it said and that I wanted to know the truth I read the Bible in a whole new way. Not some corny light from heaven or anything but it seriously made a lot more sense. I remembered what I read and was able to connect it to other scriptures. I was able to see what the moral of the story was and how to apply it to my life. I was able to see the true God in the Bible and the desire to know the truth and that God won out over the WTBS indoctrination.

It's written to us from God so I don't think it is confusing exactly, But it is true that if you don't really care about what you're reading it's not going to make sense and may seem confusing.
Christian should not think it's too confusing to understand though-- they have the love and desire and the Holy Spirit to help too. The Holy Spirit is not and Organization or the actions of God. He indwells believers for life. He's not going to get yanked out. If one truly loves God and seeks him he will find him. The Bible is written to every believer not just the elite that want to tell you what to think. OK, I'll can it for now <>< Angie

    BTW withheld- I'm not confused.......
Are you? Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and he will lift you up.

    Patio134,
Couldn't agree with you more on this one. The bible isn't really all that complex it is full of contadiction and error. That is why people say you need faith to understand it. Faith gives people the blinders to overlook it glaring errors.

    Sargon...Patio134,

"The bible isn't really all that complex it is full of contradiction and error. That is why people say you need faith to understand it."

Correction "That's why you do need faith to understand it." fly-by
Why do you feel so sure of yourself? It isn't because you can prove your point of view to be accurate.
You can only prove that your point of view is your point of view. But you can't wait to accuse others of having blinders on. That's interesting. Other people are the blind ones because you haven't learned what they have.

I'm not bashing people who choose a different way of seeing something. That would be the same as when a little kid tries to bully another kid with words. "You can't because your afraid-d-cat". What 's the motive?

If you try to understand it with out faith you will not be able to. That has always been the point since it was first written and it's the only thing about it that has stayed the same. It is consistant. You will never be able to understand what that means unless you can let down your guard long enough. But if you never do then fine. No biggie.
I'm not going to hate your guts because of it.

You don't need to be so pissssd at someone just because they choose to have a certain kind of faith that you appose of.
And since your here in the first place I am assuming you have old issues as an exjw who has crappy memories of being judged and made fun of and ridiculed. So what's wrong, you still haven't got it out of your system yet? you need to ridicule others for a while longer till you feel better? What about your 'glaring errors'? uh, you don't have any?

I can see why you are out!

Unfortunately when you decided to leave Jehovahs Organization, Jehovah's spirit no longer resides in you.

If your studies have brought you to this point then good for you. You shouldn't allow an org to take away your right to spirituality.
The R & F (other sheep) do not have the spirit inside and are not allowed in this elite group, that is reserved for the annointed only.

    Congratulations.

    Hi sargon
JWs are misled from a "humanist's" point of view because of the blind belief
they put into a book filled with contradictions, conjecture and superstition,
They should be educated to stop the killing and hurt, re blood & shunning.

Jw's are misled from a "christian's" point of view because they base ones salvation on the work they must do to build up the kingdom of the legal organization with their literature that is
filled with contradictions, conjecture and superstition,
and should be educated to stop the killing and hurt, re blood & shunning.
