I still think it was tragically sad that religious euphoria drove the great Blaise Pascal completely bonkers insane and probably hastened his death.
Pascal's Wager, Best Answer I Have Heard

bohm
Pascals wager is horribly broken. Lets suppose we accept pascals wager as a valid reason for accepting God. Accordingly we should choose the God with:
(1) the most severe consequences if we reject it
(2) the greatest rewards for accepting it
(3) no forgiveness at all
Because for that god, the reward for accepting god is the greater, the punishment is the most severe, and there is no chance of a "free ride" just for being good.
Problem is that is not the christian God. consider for instance a god which deside that (if you reject him) he will let one of your children burn in hell along with you, for no other reason than to punish you even harder. According to pascals wager, we should go with a god like that over a god which merely put you into hell (or heaven, if you have done what he want of you) because, *wink* *wink*, we might not know for sure if any of them exist, but consider the awfull consequences if you are wrong!
Oh and what leavingwt said.
