My two cents is that we who have in some true sense, barely escaped intact with anything left of ourselves and our lives, from the growing traditionalistic faith community habits that instruct how we must conform to follow Jesus ... must speak up, stand together, bear witness, and above all, offer ourselves as a global 'survivor community' to stand in witness / support with any youth/families who are still being lured or coerced down these tragic, egregious paths.End gay cures

Yes, it can be dangerous. I should know, I have been through it, including electroshock (ECT). In the end, it just doesn't work, and many times people end up just as confused if not moreso than before the "Cure". And you are right, the self harm that it sometimes causes can be very damaging, not only emotionally, but physically. My body will never be the same.
