Bump.
Great post ! Thank You! I have enjoyed sending Birthday greetings since leaving the borg.
When I was a kid they droned on about "creature worship"...well current JWs are ga ga over the governing body. THAT old argument went out the window!
"Not sure about the crotch-rubbing trouser example though."
A little too much truth for the audience, eh?

A text in the Bible which supports celebrating birthdays is Job chap 3. Job had just lost all his sons and daughters. His wife turned against him, he was struck with a loathsome disease from head to toe. Because he suffered all these things he lamented: "Afterword Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. " Let the day perish on which I was to be born, and the nightwhich said 'a boy is is conceived.
In other words, because of all his distresses he wishes he was never born or the date of his birth never celebrated. One can conclude then, if he was not tormented with all these trouble his date of birth would have been celebrated.

Great article jwfacts!
Loved the inclusion of the “Are Cats for Christians” satire as an example of how specious WT "Reasoning" can be.
Loved having a beer with you mate during your last visit here to sunny SoCal.
Cheers,

I have never seen such a band of men so superstitious as these Watchtower men that they would need to grope around mindlessly in the Bible to justify their irrational fears.
But isnt Jesus birthday celebrated in the gospels that note his birth in Bethlehem. The 3 kings bringing gifts were very much accepted by Mary and Joseph. I cant help but think tht was a birthday party.
WT logic is flawed, many people died in weddings in the OT, so i guess that means weddings should also be banned. Many people also died in the BIble particularly in the OT, we probably should ban that aswell. I agree wholeheartedly with that reasoning and idea.
This is just them being pharisees in creating rules from things vaguely in the Bible. They made refusing birthday treats a matter of loyalty to Jehovah.
Romans 14:4-6 specifically says that what days a person does or doesn't celebrate is a matter of individual choice and conscience which should not be judged by people who choose differently: "Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God."
