i actually found tracts to be more effective than the magazines. one thing i always noted was criticism for s for always having all this literature.so what i did was i gave up on the magazines, kept a slew of the tracts in my bible, usally the one about living forever and i think who really rules the world. i forget. it was a black tract with a globe on it i think. and while i still had my service bag, i walked around with my bible in hand and enough folded tracts to keep me busy for the day inside the bible. my presentations were always simple, usally a quick question and i'd offer the tract.
from there i'd visit a couple times, wouldn't give them anything and then after a month of return visits, i'd offer a bible study with a book i liked. usally the knowledge book. that's a fantastic propoganda book. it has all the answers...from a certain point of view...and there's no need for the publisher conducting the study to need to research anything.
thankfully i'd have to hand off my bible studies to older brothers and they screwed em up effectively and by the time i was old enough to really feel comfortable in service, i only did the rv thing half heartedly. even as a pioneer. as a pioneer, it was a lot more about your hours and how much literature you placed, not so much whether you had a study. honestly i don't think most of the pioneers i knew had one except for the hot girls. surprise surprise.
i think i stopped using magazines for anything except dropping them off in landry mats during early morning service. not good for much else.
