    Lisa,

I started Alpine. Being European, I still think it is the most sophisticated style.

I have to say though, the Russians are totally without fear, but theytake no prisoners. Climb or die!!

    Refiners,

Krakauer did Boukreev a disservice. He acted like any guide should in those circumstances and showed tremendous courage and resliliance beyond the normal.

Both Krakauer and Boukreev were present at a dinner function I was attended between June '96 and his death on Annapurna a few weeks later. They almost came to blows. I would have been quite pleased to have seen Krakauer chewing on a crampon...lol

Kralauer did however, write one of the most exciting books about mountaineering that I have ever read.

    Best you you - HS

    Tch, tch, all....

``Leave the truth and look what happens'' we're all big boys and big girls and our right to speak our minds is to me sacrosanct; but that's the message that blares out to newbies from this forum.

Why is civility so out of fashion these days?

    Hillary,

I'm a huge fan of "Into Thin Air" despite the fact I am not a climber, nor will I ever be. Just a hiker here.

I have not heard Boukreev's side of the story (I know he wrote his own book) but I thought Krakauer made a good point that Boukreev's
actions on summit day contributed greatly to the disaster that happened. He wasn't helping in the initial summit push. However, he showed great heroism going out in the storm and bringing back some of the people trapped out there.

Beck Weathers is the real hero of the incident to me. I enjoyed his eclectic "Left For Dead."

Have you read Krakauer's "Into the Wild"? Another great book.

    HAHAHAA!!!

I piss on you all. Degenerates! Vile humans!!! Damn, damn humans!

Seriously, though, people really need to take a breather from here if they take comments from here seriously. I've seen all of the fights and I know that I'm cool with almost 100% of the people who are fighting with each other......so why do they have such problems with each other? Never could figure that one out.

    Tch, tch everybody...

``What else do you expect from these people? Leave the truth and that's what happens." Believe me I revere free and unfettered speech as much as anyone; but like it or not, that's the message that all too often blares out at newbies from this forum.

Why is civility so out of fashion these days? ``A feature of The Sign of The End,'' perhaps?

    The funny thing is....

the more I read the title of this thread, the more it sounds like a warning, rather than an encouragement. Maybe I have been watching too many Godfather movies!

Hi Prisca: I see what you mean ... well, it truly is meant in a good way ... although, having a "Gweedo" around for protection is nice ... come on Gweedo ... just teasing. ... anyway, Prisca ... I have been working on another post that I hope will help ... wish me luck.

    Why work on another post?

Let the matter drop and let it fade.

Unless you have some personal interest in keeping it going.
