Things really have changed at the KH - here is the latest CO and his wife to breeze through Western Washington.

Seriously, Metatron - good post. We have noticed similar trends up to the time we left in 2000.

    All best,
    Mak

    THANK GOD SOMEONE SAID THIS

I was wondering if it was just me!

The last time I was at a book study, I was sitting next to a mildly retarded sister who rocks back and forth while rubbing her hands.

The sister behind me is in her early 60's, was a successfull acountant but on disability because she is agoraphobic and can't stand to see anything move (she cant stand the rocking sister!)

The woman next to me was my mother, a middle aged psychotic child abuser and violently rageful person.

The brother behind me was publically reproved for having a cigar while he gambled on a vacation to Las Vegas.

It was a dysfunctional family!!! And I"m sitting there wondering...do they look for these kind of people?

You've really hit the nail on the head with this one. I know that my mother joined the JWs because she was lonely and looking for a social outlet.

My dad was extremely volatile, and he and my mom were constantly fighting. Add to that the fact that she didn't drive and was a stay-at-home mom. The JWs offered her an instant social circle and gave her a purpose in her life.

I was stuck in it from the time I was 7, and I also fit the profile since my family was obviously dysfunctional, and the JWs nurtured that dysfunction so that for a very long time I bought in to the "nowhere else to go" syndrome.

High-control cults tend to seek out those with problems...either emotional or physical....because they have great success by offering an answer to every problem. "Just stick with us and God will solve ALL your problems. YOU don't have to do anything except follow our simple rules, and you will be beautiful, healthy, and live forever. Oh, yes, you'll also be able to take over all of the rich guy's stuff when he croaks.....the arrogant bastard....God HATES him, you know, because he does things on his own....without us to guide him....he is therefore evil."

Hey terafera...i didn't realise my rocking back and forth distracted you dear LOL.

So many of us came from dysfunctional homes...I know I did...but at the time I didn't know what a dysfunctional family was...I just accepted mine for what it was. I agree with you RedhorseWoman... the kingdom hall is like a magnet for 'needy' people...and your summary of the evil rich man who wont inherit God's kingdom is so true. That's exactly what we were taught to believe...the humble mildly retarted soul who rocks back n forth and rubs her hand together has a better chance then the haughty ones who adorn themselves with riches. Bullocks! There is no category for those who choose to think for themselves!

Isn't that the purpose of Christianity itself though? Jesus took pity on the ppl who he viewed as skinned and thrown about, like sheep without a shepherd. IMO, it's no great thing that a religion or organization attracts ppl who need a purpose in life. It's what they they do to actually help such ppl that should really be the focus. When conmpared to other religious and charitable organizations, the WTS falls way short in helping it's adherents to better themselves.

    Met,

This change in quality of convert was noticed several years ago. I remember a Circuit Overseer telling us how at one time the publications centered on doctrinal discussion but in recent years had focused a lot on teaching people HOW to live their lives.

The CO put it down to the decline in society in general. In hindsight I see it due to the type of people being recruited and the type of people created in the WTS.
