You are right, Rado. You *did* say "most."

I think the number of Americans who view Bush as a "great statesman" are very few, if there are any at all. As far as his handling the events of 9/11, he was pretty much backed into a corner and has handled a very difficult situation very well, imo. Personally, I would have liked to see more dialog with the enemy but other than that, I don't see what he could have done differently on the global front.

Btw, there is a discussion about Bush at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=11907&site=3 that you might enjoy.

    Thanks for the apology.

Englishman guess how much Bush or anyone else cares what Europes opinion of him is???

Wonder if Europe might consider thanking Bush for what he's doing about terrorism? Naw, they are too superior to thank anyone.

    LB,

Well, Bush should care about Europe, it's a similar size to the US and many of it's countries, including the UK, can be formidable antagonists if they feel pushed around. You talk about terrorism. You know nothing! This country of mine has spent 30 years being bombed by wild Irishmen who were funded by bleeding heart Nor-Aid umpteenth down-the-line-generation-Americans who would gag on a Guinness shoving money from the USA to the IRA.

So don't talk to me about terrorism and what the good ole USA is doing to protect us Mister Smarty-Pants!

    Sheesh, some people.

    Englishman.

:D yes England is a force to be reckoned with. After all they stormed off to save the Falklands just a time ago and only took a month to get there. Then again dealing with those terrorist Irish makes dealing with The Taliban, Iran and Iraq seem like childs play. You're right, we should fear you.

    Political Science 101:

People who talk with an unhesitating gate and apparent confidence are PERCEIVED as more intelligent than those with a more hesitant speech pattern.

Items that speak to Bush’s intelligence:

1 More formal education than any other US president (Masters in Business-I think) from one of the US’s leading universities.
2 Many in the US think that Bush has assembled the most capable, experienced and intelligent set of cabinet officials and senior advisors that any president has had in our memory. One example is Ms. Rice, National Security Advisor, with a doctorate from Stanford University (the Harvard of the West).

Some believe that Bush has been brilliant in his use of the technique of having his capabilities under estimated; thereby, his actual achievements are high by comparison. Expect little, get more. This technique leaves many feeling good about the results that he gets.

    LB:

Thank you for trivialising the suffering of my fellow country people (including some personal friends) affected by IRA bombing campaigns. Next time I take a trip back home I'll be sure to inform them that some Americans view this as mere "childs play."

Now, why exactly is it that you feel Europe should thank America for acting in it's own self-interest? Because that is what it is doing in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other places.

That America's self-interest happens to temporarily co-incide with Europe's interests is not in dispute. But do you really think that if 9-11 had taken place in London or Paris that the US would have invaded Afghanistan?

America's actions are taken entirely for America's interest. Whether or not other countries benefit is entirely irrelevant to American policy-makers. This is only natural and to be expected, and this has been true of all countries throughout history. So don't try and push the idealistic delusion of American altruism on us.

I see no comparison between the two. Are the English under nuclear threat from the Irish? We are from the terrorists and so is Europe. We also know there is no way that America will be appreciated for what Americans are doing in the middle east right now. That's ok, we're used to it. It's easy to claim we are there only for ourselves. I suppose during WWII we only served American interests. Many Europeans made the same claim then.

Do you think that if 9/11 occurred in London America wouldn't be involved? You don't know us well then.

We may not be perfect, but we're there and we always have been.
