Broken Promises
He sounds just like me when I'd decided that I'd had enough.
The decision to leave is a hard thing to do and you feel like you're the only one who's ever done it. It's a scary prospect.
Good for you to offer your support. There is a slight possibility that it could backfire if he got cold feet and decided to tell the elders what you said. But I doubt it though.
Good on you for being so supportive!

Thanks for sharing that.
Once you physically get away form the indoctrination for a while its easier to see it objectively. I found the same thing about leavignt the borg and later the church.

NATHAN NATAS: All of "the signs of the times" that JWs used to recite to remind themselves that they were in the time of the end have been thrown on the scrapheap by the Governing Body. NO JW an argue effectively from the Bible that there is any more chance that he will live to see armageddon as there was a chance of Abraham Lincoln seeing Armageddon. They are rudderless and adrift in the stream of time.
DITTO.
The new message is: LISTEN . . . . OBEY . . . . AND BE SAVED (from being DFd for brazen attitude).

I’m glad you were there for your friend and gave him both the love and support he needed. I found his statement about how boring the meetings have become to be very interesting. I wonder how many others feel that way. There was a time when I looked forward to them because I always gleaned something positive from them. That ended even before I was disfellowshipped seven years ago and it seems many others find them lifeless and colorless also.
I hope you can remain in touch with your friend and continue to support him. The advice you gave him at the close of your talk was very good. It is something all of us should heed and not just in matters of religion. Life is too short to be led around by our noses and not actively pursue what is worthwhile.

Interesting.
My suggestion would be that the next time he has to take the group out in service, arrange for the two of you to go together on "a study." Then do a couple calls or perpetual not-at-homes and spend most of the morning over coffee, talking about plans for the future. How's his job? Is he coveting a university education?

I also had a similar conversation with a long time JW friend, who confided about taking a break. It appears that many feel as your JW friend. Thanks for sharing and keep planting some seeds.
