Anyone else notice how the org is starting to equate Family Worship Evening with an actual meeting. I do realize that was probably always their intention but lately I have noticed them grouping it with "...ministry, attendance at meetings...family worship.."

Are they f'king serious?? They have the nerve to do that when one of the clearly stated reasons that they gave for disbanding the Bookstudy was "increasing fuel costs" also spending an hour or more in some areas to travel to that hour long meeting essentially wasting time. Their solution was to combine that meeting with the TMS and Service meeting. So we are not missing any meetings. So WTF all of a sudden guilting you to use your additional free evening for Family Worship. What's next taking attendance from each household to make sure you attend?

    Such bullshit in this "religion"

And it also means that the single people in the congos get to spend YET MORE TIME alone.

They may be OCCASIONALLY invited to join you for Fambly Worshit, but remember any single person is to be viewed with suspicion - they might be GAY.

(Of course pedos are nooo problem)

The last jackass of a CO we had told us the dissolvement of the book study arrangement had nothing to do with meeting attendance, or gas prices, but rather the GB saw the need to reinforce the spirtuality of families. He stated that Satan realizes that a strong congregation is the result of spiritually strong family units.

COs are putting the screws on elder bodies to "encourage" families to do so through shepharding visits. It used to be during a shepharding call, the two brothers would encourage a person to either develope or increase their personal study, now they're encouraging Family Worship Night during visits.

I would just hazard a guess that fewer than 10% of JW families actually do this Family Worship night.

This past Saturday a couple brothers including one with a family invited me to dinner at a resteraunt tomorrow night. I almost brought up the Family Worship night but decided to disregard it.

I was pretty shocked when they dropped book study, as I had only become "conscious" six months earlier and I didn't get why they would drop one of the brainwashings sessions.

But I agree the "family night" was supposed to be another mind control night, that is if they can get people to do it. Stupid fools at WT HQ though don't realize JWs won't always ask "How high?" when the WT says "Jump"

I wonder if the numbers keep looking bad like we are starting to see if they will re-institute another meeting night. That would go over like a lead balloon.

I think the participation rate is higher than 10%, but certainly far from 100%.

It's primarily used as another filter for determining who "qualifies" to be a MS or elder.

-- 10 hours of ministry per month? Check

-- Answers at the meetings? Check

-- Family members at home not DFed or reproved, and getting close to 10 hours / month? Check

-- (New) Conducting a family worship night? Check

Check enough boxes and Brother X is nominated to be a MS or elder. Scriptural qualifications are virtually never discussed. If they are mentioned at all it is a perfunctory reading from 1 Timothy 3 and then "well that's that" and then straight to "let's look at his publisher card".

Remember this was an arrangment to have a family study, once a week, for one hour all the time I was growing up. We rarely did though. It's just a new name and a repeat of what families can do to "worship". It would be interesting to search family study on the WT-CD.

So Miz, are you going to the restaurant with them on Family Night?

Another issue is that a few weeks ago on HuffPo there was a story about a man (not a JW) who was forbidden to have a Bible Study at his house because of too many people meeting in a residential property, plus the parking issue, etc., btw someone posted that story here when it broke, I have a feeling the Borg was probably getting complaints about some the Bible Study houses with the same issue.
