I think threads like this are important. We all have a certain level of bitterness towards this organization for what it has done to us and countless others. However, it's important to see that Jehovah's Witnesses are not evil people! Most of them do not realize what they are doing. Jesus and Stephen both asked God to forgive their abusers because they knew not what they were doing.
Jookbeard, while I agree (as almost all of us do) that the Watchtower has been responsible for so much pain, it is pretty offensive to take it out on someone that was truly doing what she thought was right. The guilt does not lay at Magwitch's grandmothers feet. It lies at the feet of the Governing Body. It's pretty sad to try and lay that guilt not even at the feet of the grandmother, but it's almost like leaving the guilt with Magwitch herself!
For the most part, Jehovah's Witnesses do not realize what the organization has done to people. They are trying to live good clean lives. Even though they are wrong in alot of ways, they do not think that they are. So to be an (as elderelite properly termed it) asshat and try to make Magwitch or her family feel guilty is horrible. Isn't that sort of laying on of guilt something that the Watchtower always did to us?
No, it is definitely possible to live a full and happy life as a Jehovah's Witness. Some are able to let the the beliefs and accusations of the Watchtower not affect them. They have their own beliefs and their own feelings about certain matters and even if it disagrees with the Watcthower, they can keep it to themselves and feel ok about it.
I just found the guilt that you tried to lay on Magwitch about her dead grandmother in pretty bad form. It's what gives ex'JWs a bad name.
