Id wonder how many wives of servants had the upper hand so to speak, on issues, that of course, were supposed to be private, yet gee lets be honest, husbands and wives talk. its nature.
so if you were a wife of a servant how much did you get involved?
By my experience, none. My elder is quite the heavy in all things JW and all I do is toe the line with a nice smile as best as possible. All the while dreaming of leaving it all behind if he happens to die first. Sometimes my fantasies are more along the lines of asking him out of the blue for a divorce, but I am too chicken to carry it out, plus I do love the guy.

I never discussed confidential things at home. I know for a fact that other elders told their wives everything.
I worked with one prominent elder - talks at DC etc - who could not make a decision unless he knew his wife and extended family would be happy about it.

I feel like in some couples, where the wife had a particularly strong personality, and the husband a weaker one, the wife did have an influence and could find things out if she wanted to (let's face it, women can be quite the amazing Delilah style manipulator when they want to be.)
sofia, I am hoping something changes for you...that your husband experiences or sees something that rocks his little world, so that it will wake him up and you can be free.
I think that would be on a case by case basis. I am sure there are some so-called "Elderettes" that have an huge influence on individual elders (their husbands). However if their husbands are not influential on the BOE then its meaningless. If he is prominent on the BOE then yes she could control things behind the scenes as a puppet master.
My personal opinion is that its rare.

I would hazard a guess that any elders who answer here are going to say they kept the office of elder very sacred and held it responsibly. Why? Because it seems to me after reading here that the BEST elders are the ones that leave.

Editing to add: there are some extremely intelligent men here posting who hold positions still but the fact that they are here posting shows the above point still holds.

Very interesting and (I think correct) observation.
I was very confidential when an Elder and my wife totally respected that.
Others were obviously not so tight-lipped, with their wives or other friends.

Been out for over 20 years and I told my wife about how you had to disclose every detail when talking to the elders and this included some of the hot sisters who had been involved in immorality. I told her the elders probably really enjoyed those meetings! She made a great argument that since the elders were so horned up their wives probably benefited greatly after some of those meetings, too!!
So back to the point, My father was and still is the strictest of elders and our family never heard a peep about anything. However, another elder in the BOE told his wife everything and his son who was friends with me and my brother, once overheard that one of the brothers came before the committee for bestiality! We joked that after this meeting the elder probably came home and made his wife give it to him doggy-style and bark like a dog!!
