I'm getting the sore throat and I feel chilled. I'm on the liquids and staying covered up. Anything else you can suggest to beat this thing??

Tea and time. Try to get the wifey to make a homemade chicken soup....always makes me feel better. Light meals, don't give your body much more to do than just fight whatever's in you.
Least, that makes me feel better.
Also, stare at posters of Jennifer Connelly. Works wonders.

Poor LB! The 'cure' is rest and plenty of fluids--hot fluids are even better.
BTW, the reason you need the fluids is that you tend to become dehydrated when sick because of fever and loss of appetite. The muscous then becomes thicker and not expelled from the body. This becomes the site for secondary infections and bronchial troubles. The only thing that will loosen the phlegm is liquids and some medicines.
How's about a hot toddy?

Oh! And aspirin and ibuprofen (NOT acetaminophen) are anti-inflammatories and may help with the inflammation in your throat.
It doesn't feel like strep throat, does it? That's an immediate terrible sore throat and immediate fever. It doesn't (in my cases) follow a cold or have cold-like symptoms. In that case, hie yourself to the doc for antibiotics or you're in for a l-o-n-g stretch of a very painful throat.
Lots of throat lozenges help too!

home cooked chicken broth with some noodles. It really does help.
and gatorade.
LB,
I am sorry you are feeling bad.
This is what I do when I get something like you describe.
I eat only chicken soup for at least two days
. Homemade with vegetables is best but any kind will do.
But there are extra ingredients to add to your hot bowl of soup just before eating that does the magic.
Add one large raw chopped clove of garlic and as much ground cayenne as you can stand to your serving.
This will be very strong but it is good for you and you will feel better soon.
I also take lots of Vitamin C (the chewable kind is soothing to your throat).
At night my beverage is a hot whisky toddy or a bourbon and coke.
Germs just don’t have a chance with this diet!
Your loved ones will be protected because no one will want to get very close to you.
Dear LB:
Not to contradict patio's hot fluids suggestion, because they do feel good; but sometimes with inflammatory processes alternating hot and cold is a good idea too.
Whenever my kids have sore throats, I give them popsicles and sherbet. Ice cream is not as good because dairy products will encourage the production of mucus which in turn will provoke coughing and irritates the sore throat.
Make sure it's not strepthroat, which will require antibiotics (penicillin is the drug of choice, unless you're allergic) and is rather contagious.
Get your rest; acetaminophen for the fever and pain, ibuprofen OR aspirin for the inflammation. While acetaminophen and ibuprofen can be taken together for improved pain control, you shouldn't take ibuprofen and aspirin together because they can irritate your digestive system, both ibuprofen and aspirin have anti-platelet properties which means that normal blood clotting is impaired. Alternate popsicles and chicken noodle soup.
Feel better soon!

If it is actually a cold, Zicam really seems to work for me. If I catch it at the first signs, often times it doesnt' take hold. Otherwise, it really seems to shorten the duration.
It's an over the counter zinc nasal spray.
