KOIN TV NEWS station on JW's

    Tonight on KOIN news a Portland OR station there will be a segment on the JW families that have been murdered recently. Dad was called for an interview this afternoon, but since we're in FL now they had to do it on the phone. Others were also interviewed. We have been faxing and emailing him all kinds of info that pertains to this. They're focusing in on the shunning aspects of the JW and the apparent consuquenses it has.

    IF anyone is in the local area I just wanted to let them know about it, we'll try to get a copy as well. I'm very excited because this is a local station from my hometown and hopefully some friends and family will see and hear this. My sis is gonna die of embarrassment ohh well. She should be embarrassed by HER actions.

    Since I live just across the Columbia from Portland, I'll have to turn cable off tonight and watch it. Unless I forget.

    If God's Spirit is filling a Kingdom Hall, how is it that Satan can manuever the ones within that Kingdom Hall at the same time?

    WOW, Venice, it was the lead story! Your Dad sounded calm and well versed. They also had an interview with what I assume to be an active elder and he seemed a bit nervous, not too sure he should be saying anything. Of course, he tried to say that it was Bryant isolating the fmaily from the JWs and not the other way around.

    I can't see what it would matter, but the news did say the family was receiving some harrassment from other family members. I believe they were referring to the Grandparents trying to seek court ordered visitation.

    It is very sad that this whole mess happened and I cannot solely blame the JWs. But, I do feel their archaic practice of enforcing their version of shunning does to harm to may that they don't wish to admit!

    I live in Vancouver, WA...just across the river from Portland. Just watched the segment! The phone interview was particularly interesting.

    What a small world! I live close to 162nd/Evergreen area. Yes, the elder they interviewed, was a little "lacking" in my opinion. The reporter asked, "Could the practice of JW shunning, have something to do with the McMinneville tragedy?" Well, the elder TURNED the whole thing around. He said, that those witnesses who are DAed, shun their JW relatives! I was like HUH??? He went on to say that the Bryants had surviving family members who were still "JWs in GOOD STANDING" who gives a sh*t...he didn't say a word about the fact there there were six people dead.

    Yes, I didn't catch what Cong that elder was from, but he did seem to want to turn it around and shift suspicion back on Bryant, who ultimately bears guilt anyway. But, absolutely no acknowledgement that shunning may have played a role or even defending the practice. Just saying that it was He, Bryant, who isolated himself.

    I am curious to see if the fallout from this story goes anywhere else.
