That's exactly the risk the NFL is taking. I, for one, would love to see the general public fall out of love with professional sports. I firmly believe that the whole system is overvalued and ridiculous - look at how many people are up in arms over whether a particular team wins or loses a *GAME*. Seriously, it doesn't matter who wins or loses today - there'll be another game tomorrow and another the day after that. But, given the public's obsession with football etc, it would be smart for the NFL to ensure that they can put out a quality product. Refusing to pay the officials a fair cut of the revenue is foolish and greedy and could very well cost them more in the end

I recommend you go hide yourself in your compound for a few weeks, until the backlash from this comment blows over!

Even on the field for the touchdown, one ref said no... one ref said yes... both were standing next to each other saying yes, and no, at the same time. They just went with yes
    .

And the one saying no, and calling it an interception, was the one with the best look. He was standing right over the two players. How the other ref was able to overrule his call is a mystery.

Yeah, i have no idea either.

This is dangerous, and I can't believe the NFL hasn't done something to rectify the situation. I mean, how much money do they bring in every year? And they're putting players safety at risk for what again?

Players are getting frustrated, and that leads to people getting hurt.

That's what I thought when I saw it.

Now, this could have happened with an experienced crew. There have been game ending calls that were wrong and everyone was incensed the day after. But what makes this one so bad is that isn't just the one call. It was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back. After bad call/no call after bad call/no call... after total screwups that a peewee official wouldn't make, like calling wrong downs, marking off penalty yards incorrectly, allowing extra time outs or challenges, and then this... it is clear that this situation is unacceptable to anyone who loves the game, from coaches, to players, to fans.

Problem is, even as pissed off as we are, we'll tune in on Sunday and watch the train wreck. We'll wear our team colors, buy the tickets, pay for cable packages to watch our team, spend money at the sports bars. And as long as we do that, Roger Goodell will not budge. Either the players are gonna have to strike...or we the fans are gonna have to boycott. Just don't see it happening though.

I don't see it happening either. I'll tell ya right now I'll be watching on Sunday depending on who's playing. As far as players taking a stand, I was pretty upset when Green Bay sent some players out on the field for the extra point just so the game would conclude properly. I was hoping they would have taken a united stand and remained in their locker room. Or at the least come out on the field and and just stand their or lay down. Them coming out to the field for the xtra point was ultimate example of adding insult to injury.

By the way, this picture is classic. Truly some three stooges type hilarity.

I see the point, but there is a sportsmanship and character issue here.

Even if the decision was wrong, it was still the decision - according to the rules.

At least nobody could call the Green Bay players cry-babies.

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8427652/locked-nfl-referees-return-early-week-sources

The NFL and the NFL Referees Association made enough progress in negotiations Tuesday night that the possibility of the locked-out officials returning in time to work this week's games has been discussed, according to sources on both sides.

An agreement in principle is at hand, according to one source familiar to talks.

Although league sources said it would take a week to get the locked-out officials on the field, the NFLRA says its 121 referees have been trained on the new rules implemented last season, have already passed physicals or are prepared to pass physicals immediately. New official game uniforms designed by Nike are "hardly an obstacle," according to a source.

Both sides have made concessions on previous sticking points such as a taxi squad of 21 new officials and pension plans that sources say the final meaningful hurdle is, as one source said, "about a little more money."

While league sources say owners who participated in a conference call with commissioner Roger Goodell during Tuesday's talks had instructed the negotiating team to set a firm barrier for the financial settlement, the NFLRA is prepared to accept a new agreement primarily in the form of a "ratification bonus," which would compensate its 121-member union for concessions it is willing to make.
