I started enjoying holidays soon after I was DFd 20 years ago. Loved them then, love them now. Halloween is my favorite. I make a costume every year.

Emma, I love your posts and also the idea that shunning backfires on the Borg. I agree, my late husband and I were totally shunned by my family and all our friends but we got free and were able to do whatever we wanted like celebrate holidays without the stress that someone we knew was going to drop in and see our Xmas tree etc. That helps clear your mind and move on fast I think.

Andys,I love your photo looking forward to the new one this year!

The first year, I ordered supplies online. I had this feeling that, if I went to the store, Brother Hounder or one of his buddies would be shopping and end my waste of their time. Turns out you get better quality that way, anyways.

First year. No tree, but I did order LED lights and string them up in my place. I also placed some on my plants, along with some Christmas bulbs I ordered online. It wasn't much, but it was much better than wasting it at the Kingdumb Hell with some witless scum that is whining about how horrible it is.

Next year. I ordered a real Christmas tree. I also ordered lots more lights for it, along with plenty of additional decorations to place. I wasn't doing Halloween yet, but I had the Christmas decorations up nice and early--right after the Fourth of July. The tree went up right after Labor Day. I bought a nice color-changing LED star for it, and strung plenty of LED's around the place. Then the NBC Pedophile Embarrassment came, so I doubled the Christmas lights on the windows. To hell with whether Brother Hounder sees it--and has an accident worrying about it. I put a hook in the middle of the window up top, placed string with clips at intervals along the bottom, and ran the lights in a triangle. I also started listening to Christmas music on purpose that year--and getting some more.

In 2008, I enlarged the Christmas theme. That year, I also became more brazen and started buying Christmas ornaments openly in stores. Let Brother Hounder have an accident or get a ticket trying to catch me with something.

The year 2009 saw my first attempts at Halloween, and these years I have a full-blown display in the lobby of my apartment building for Halloween. The whole thing looks like a Halloween wonderland, and will become a Christmas wonderland in November. In the meantime, the Christmas decorations within my apartment stay up all summer--and I don't give a fxxx what Brother Hounder thinks as he drives on the highway behind my place, notices my Christmas lights, and slams into a tree.

I had a great first Christmas. I moved to Colorado to marry the love of my life. My sweetie loves Christmas and I love decorating, so we went all out. We had some family for Christmas eve. Christmas morning we heard a knock on the door. We were wondering who could possibly be out that early on Christmas morning. It was Santa!! A Christmas package had gone astray and the USPS had a nice guy who dressed as Santa to deliver errant gifts. We gave him some cookies if course.

We opened our gifts and had a nice brunch. Everyone left around noon. My hubbie and I settled in and read our Xmas books, a fire in the fireplace, snow coming down, beautiful Christmas music playing. It was magical.

I have celebrated many Christmases since then, but none will ever top that one.

I wish you all have a great Christmas this year and every year.

this year is my first since i was a weeee child! my birthday and haloween this month and i couldnt be more excited!!!! since im fading i have too be somewhat descreet, but in a perverse way that makes it even more fun!!!!! muahahahhahhaha!!!

Emma- sooo true what you said about shunning working against them. same here as soon as i became slightly irregular at meetings, no sign of the "friends" socially so i feel pretty confident about decorating the hell out of the inside of my apt. true, fading would be much much harder if anyone actually tried to "encourage the weak ones".

undercover-same here, dont know why but ive always been fascinated with halloween! its my favorite by far!

I enjoy them but I don't have "the spirit". The first few years I spent a fortune on my friends kids. I guess just trying to be accepted. Now I just go to the parties. They have no meaning for me but I love "get togethers". I don't do lights or trees. Kids don't go door to door on Halloween anymore...too dangerous...they go to the stores and the mall.

    I LUV Halloween...

Christmas has turned into too much work - and hubby doesn't lift a finger to help. So no more Xmas at my house.

But we've got ghosts, ghouls and goblins!!

My house is totally Halloweened out right now. Having a big party for the kids in 2 weeks, and going to a Halloween symphony concert. Now, I need a costume.
