Mix the truth with lies in to a pudding and call it steak

pudding disguised as steak - i like that expression in fact it expresses the enduring power of religion in that if the mix (in my case the mix of history and fiction to make religion rather than truth and fiction) is accepted as steak and if enough people value it as such then because of the power of fame it is steak.

edit: my hubby is very much like yours jgnat and I also feel very comfortable and safe discussing such issues with him but i have to be careful to approach the subject in a more generalised way as above

Yeah, soft+gentle, I am not often so frank.

Then there's my Schizophrenic son. He's been more paranoid lately, convinced that the Mafia have a hit on him. Graffiti is targeting him. I saw him last night and he looked at me with big puppy-dog eyes, convinced he only has days to enjoy my company.

What is happening with my B-I-L makes me short with everyone. Here my son is, living in mortal dread, and he will continue to live. My B-I-L will not. I told my son he is not a target of the Mafia. He got insulted and asked me why I didn't believe him? I told him I did not trust his delusional brain, as it is not always trustworthy. We have proof. He is still alive. See, careful not to make it personal. He just has a glitchy brain. Then I told him to be quiet, he was going to disturb the movie patrons with his morbid talk.

After he got over his little snit, we enjoyed the movie. Maybe not the best choice, "Total Recall", LOL.

Sorry to hear you are going through all of this.

Is your sister a Christian like yourself. If so, the Watchtower message is hardly a comfort, and the Christian message a better hope. You can point out to your husband that is a lot nicer to think the dead loved one lives on in heaven, than is gone, lifeless, until an unknown time at a future resurrection.

My sister is likely an agnostic, but she has seen the power of prayer to comfort and even heal in her practice, so she asks for our prayers.

Hubby is uncouth enough to offer that they are mistaken to believe in the heavenly reward, but he is on strict orders from me not to bring up the religion. He is showing uncharacteristic restraint, bless him.

its interesting that you can see the man inside the cult suit.

I agree, at times like this you need support and that is the primary concern. I think JWs dont even understand how sanctimonious they sound passing judgement on everyone around them- the living, the dead, the dying.

Since JWs do feel this way about the educated class I suggest they carry cards denying all medical care by materistic educated ones with empty lives called doctors. and lawyers. dentists. accountants.

As an aside, hubby and I watched a few episodes of Breaking Amish. It is interesting that hubby reads the scriptures, declares "that's true" and then watches in horrified silence at how that scripture is literally applied by the Amish. Your comment, perfect1, reminds me of seeing a sixteen year old girl in dentures because the only dental care offered her was by an uneducated Amish tooth-puller. The "worldly" dentist was positively horrified and gave the girl new dentures pro bono. The girl calls her an angel.

My brother-in-law passed away early this morning. He was able to speak a few words of comfort to his children before he passed away, and my daughter and her family drove the two hours to be at his side yesterday. His pain is over.

My dear jgnat, I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could do more than that, but I hope you will accept it as the best I can give now. On the other hand, I appreciate that your brother-in-law’s suffering has ended and he is now at rest. May he rest in peace.
