So this 70 something yr old brother, ex bethelite, ex spec pioneer, current pioneer with over 50 yrs of full time service is lamenting he might have to step down as an elder because he is computer ignorant. I guess the Org uses the internet to communicate with elders and having internet access is required of elders. Anyway he's going to Dunkin Donuts with his wife and he sees free WiFi. So he makes his order and tells the girl he'll take one of those free we fees. Wife had to explain what WiFi is.
can't make this up

He obviously is falling behind johovahs chariot like org. Prolly fell off on one of those ziggs or zaggs that the spiritual chariot does every few yrs.

He sounds like someone more upset about his advanced age than anything. If he's not proficient with a computer he can still get all the letters off of any elder with access, especially the secretary. Internet access is NOT a requirement.

I just thought the wee fee/WiFi story was funny, gave me a laugh anyway.

It is funny, poor guy. Feel bad sometimes for older people trying to keep up in this tech savy culture. My father had been buggin me to help him on a computer, and I'm hesitant because I know he'll never get it. Its hilarious when he brings up the Conti case to those who may not know about it. He says,"It's on that Google, you should check it out!"
The old man paroled on Shawshank Redemption comes to mind when I think of older ones trying to keep up in todays society. I dont like to laugh at them too much because the same dog that bit them is gonna bite me someday too.

Computer literacy exposes older adults - JWs or not - as lacking in necessary technological skills. He would not feel alone in any senior citizens hall.

here in the U.K there are many courses for old farts to learn basic computer skills, I bet he could find such help where he lives, but maybe the old feller is looking for a way to "stand down"?
Funny how they use that expression and yet claim they have no Clergy and being an Elder is not an elevated position, it just means more "service", so how can he "stand down" ? "Step aside", is just as bad really.

This brother's wife is computer literate, began with a three evening course. I know many older ones that are also using and depending on their PC's and laptops. Age in most cases is a weak excuse not to learn basic computing skills. But, like I said, it gave me a laugh, that's why I posted it, not to analize the brother.

My in laws are in their 80's, they each have their own computers, Internet access etc.
I do feel sorry for older ones that have never had one and now feel left out, but there are classes out there. I volunteer for a program that reaches out to the elderly and helps them get computer training, if they want that. We help them develop any skill they would like to pursue.
