Washington state doesn't have a state income tax so we end up with a rather high cost of living. Our sales tax in Edmonds is 8.9% on everything but food from a grocery store.
Up until a couple of years ago it cost about $600 a year for each of our vehicles registrations. Now it's about $130. They used to charge excise tax on the value yearly.
It's a little cheaper where I live presently in NY, but a house like that where I grew up, closer to the city, is worth about 800,000-1mil US. It would depend on neighborhood and condition of the house, maybe more. Prices went up when Clinton moved to town from the White House. His house is worth about 2 mil and he only has an acre and a 100 yr old 5,000 sq foot house.
I'm presently further away from the city and a house like that would be about 350-400,000 US.
Food and gas prices are about the same or a a little more.
Crazy is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
