Lance Armstrong

I've been following the Lance Armstrong debacle, although I'm not really interested in sports. It's interesting how at first it was hard to believe that he was guilty of doping, because of his public image. It seems, though, that the evidence is overwhelming. One article I read today said that he was a scapegoat, and that everyone in his generation of bike racing was doping, that he has been singled out. The implication was that it was a little unfair, but it seems to me that he was the winner, so he of course would be the focus of the investigation. Also, if there are 10 speeding cars and the cop stops only you, it doesn't cut any ice with the judge if you cry "unfair." Doesn't matter that everyone wasn't caught, does matter that justice is done with the ones who are caught.

Another article I read today said that the insurance company that paid him 5 million dollars in bonuses is suing him for the money. They didn't want to pay out at the time, because they claimed at the time he wasn't clean, but were forced to pay in court. So now they're asking for 7.5 million back from Armstrong - the bonus plus all their court costs.

    What do you think?

The most damning material evidence to me is the little matter of seven-consecutive tour de France wins. Did I mention SEVEN-CONSECUTIVE? ---- Come on!!! ----

If you put too much lipstick on a pig everyone knows it’s faked, somehow. The only question left is, How?

We finally found out. The real sport was beating the system. Mr. Unmentionable did it seven-consecutive times. At least!

Well, I think if you cheat, you're a cheater. You could be a cheater who overcame cancer, and is now really healthy, but you're still a cheater. And evidently this was an amazing level of cheating, involving what amounts to a criminal gang who supported Armstrong in doping his entire team.

It's sad that the remarkable story wasn't really as it was portrayed

Yes, he dominated a sport at a time when doping seems to have been rife. Something like 17 out of the last 30 tour winners have been found doping. The problem is, who do you now say 'won' those tours since many of the 2nd and 3rd place riders have also been found guilty in the years since.

Probably just have to write those years off as 'a bad era for the sport'.

I think the worse revelations are how involved he was (running things, not really a 'victim' of the sport) and also bullying and ruining people who did want to go along with things.

    Sad, very sad.

He needs to give back the money that he stole from all the policy-holders of that insurance company.

fair point hortensia but like simon said "2nd thru like 10th were doping too. lance was still the fastest cheater. as far as intimidation, its not illegal to refuse to advertise for critics.

I LOVE Lance Armstrong and support him and his charity. He's done so much for raising funds for the battle against Cancer.

He would have never snagged Cheryl Crow if not for cheating. F*@$ him!

Seriously though, I dont feel sorry for him, although I really cant stand the people who ratted on him, same with obsessive investigator whom I get the feeling was jealous of Armstrong.

    Hm.

I'm somewhat surprised to learn that he actually was 'doping'.

When the latest spate of charges arose, I thought, "Well, he outran [outrode? ] his CANCER, so everything after that would have been the 'icing' on the proverbial 'cake'..."
