I think they nominated him for this role out of guilt for screwing him over on two movies he should have won the Oscar in my opinion - Malcolm X and Hurricane

    says ALMOST THERE

I agree , it is sad that after playing very powerful black Positive roles i took him being a HOOD TO be acknowledged.

personally i think it is the worst example of including BLACK FOLKS

and the same with Hally Berrry- she had to have the strongest SEX SCENE she has ever played with in an interacial scence, while there is nothing wrong with such a relationship

I would have loved to have seen her in a scene highlighting a strong black man and woman relationship since the media shows so few.

When she played Dorthy Dandrige it was perhaps her best role -

i am a firm beleiver in equal rights , but don't give me a job/award just cause im a black man and the NAACP, Jesee,Farrakan, Al Sharpton are out in front of your buiding--,

give it to me cause i am good at what i do.

    just my 2

I saw Training Day couple of nights ago. I thought Denzel Washington was awesome.

He has a nice, good looking face - as can be seen in his other movies. A friendly smile, etc.
He transformed himself in this movie. His eyes truly became cold and calculating. His smile vicious. Impressive.

I saw "Remember the Titans" - and loved it. However, I didn't think Washington had to stretch to be that kind of character.

He played the hard cop great.

Nicely said, waiting. You make a very good point.

My friend Aaron and I were talking about Denzel and together we discovered what defines a good acting performance. When the actor(ess) disappears and all you see is the character they are performing, then it's a solid performance.

Denzel (and many, many other performers – can you say "Jack Nicholson"?) look to be walking through many of his roles – more or less just reading lines and being themselves. Except in Malcolm X, in which a man dead for years came back to life through the work of a truly exceptional performance.

I didn't see Training Day... thought it would be too cliché driven... but I agree with Almost There. I think Denzel's win was partially a make-up call for having been overlooked in the past. It's not unheard of. Just last year Russell Crowe won for Gladiator after being overlooked for his role in The Insider.

I'm glad Denzel won. It was a great night for America!

Saw Training Day today. Denzel surprised me.

I identified with Alonzo very much. To me, Alonzo is one of the most believable people I've ever seen onscreen.
