And the freedom and tolerance enshrined in British law, by and large, of course with exceptions, pervades and lasts through all those countries. Interesting that so many choose to be part of the Commonwealth.
Interesting that the British Parliament is so widely respected and called the Mother of Parliaments.
Interesting that in Britain an individual's rights are respected and protected. No-one can bully another without the arm of the law being there to protect them, and that is so much so in so many countries who choose to model their legal system on that of Britain. The map doesn't tell the whole story.
Of course there are other very much larger countries who may not have invaded militarily but whose commercial arm controls and manipulates vast swathes of the world. That doesn't show on a map either.

Agreed, most of our modern world was first tried in England. Slavery abolished because of England using her navy, Industrial revolution, universal schooling, women sufforage etc.
Yea, true, but who invented the super whopper double cheeseburger and conquered the world with that ?

LOL
but not something to be proud of
yup we only got our freedom in 1961 I think ... around about's there. That is when we became the Republic of South Africa. Such a pity, wouldn't mind being under the crown now, I'd be earning pounds dammit.
The Brits would do anything to get off that small island
Actually, it's not that small, excluding Australia, it's the 8th largest island in the world, and the journey from Lands End to John O'Groats is longer than Florida to Washington DC. But the weather's crap, so we have to invade the rest of the world to get the sunshine.
This headline reminded me of this thread. Both they and the US still have their noses in everyone's business. Not that much has really changed.
