Ill Health has plague mankind for many years. In history there are so many accounts of mortality rates being high in comparaison to today.

Today we have come along way to combat illness through the advance of science and research. Such medicines as penicillin, and insulin along with many other medical advances has improved our longevity. This was not due to prayers, it was due to taking the initiative and our creativity.

There is a study that is being conducted on prosthetics (limbs) such as leg replacements. This new prosthetic will be able to be controlled with a human mind. It will certainly be a breadthrough when the study is final, but it will take five years to complete.

I beleive that prayers help your mental disposition in a way to cope with ill health...but it won't perform a healing miracle. Remember that the Apostle Paul had poor eyesight, and prayed to have his vision improved. He didn't get that prayer answered.

There are studies that show prayer actually can result in poor health outcomes. When a group of patients were prayed for in a trial they got sicker, theexplanation offered being that if you are told people are praying for you, the assumption is you are very ill and so you will adopt that illness behaviour.

obviously god does not cure infection, cancer or amputation.... Though he did invent all the diseases if you belive in him. I wonder how much he giggled as he 'designed' cancer for Adams offspring.

i did a paper on illness, evolution and medicine. Sickness has been taken over by a religious perspective. Here was my example. If your computer slows down when peforming a virus check or when isolating a virus, is your computer malfunctioning or doing its job? Its doing its job! If you stop the anti virus software to speed up the computer, you speed it up but open it to risk of virus.

Same with the human body... Being sick, coughing, runny nose, disrrhoea, headache, high temperature etc etc .. These are not illness, these are normal safety functions. Evolved over millenia to tackle pathogens. Remove these safety mechanisms with treatment and people get very sick! A simple example is a high temperature. This is your body trying to denature the bacterial pathogen, cooling the body with asprin protects the bacteria. We think of such body functions as 'illness' or 'sickness' a punishment, a burden put on us... "Why me?" This stems from the concept of illness as punishment from god. PHOOOOEY, ITS A PROTECTION BABY!

Re: Do you believe god answers prayers about health?

No, and I have yet to see any evidence that he does.

I suffered so much. During the bad times, I was in a hospice unit. If God heals, it iis not what we call healing. There are countless articles about Jesus never healed someone who was behead or amputated. Perhaps he was very charismatic and made people feel better. I prayed so hard. Yet I also realized millions suffer all the time and they have no relief. Why should I be his princess child?

Normally, I avoid religious discussions b/c they can alien so much but when people told me to thank God that his glory was shining b/c of my illness, I went into vicious attack mode. I told them I would spit on such a god. Most of the time I suffered so silently but what a trigger.....The presumptioin. I never heard another suffering person make the suggestions. It was always people in apparently fine health.

Yet I am glad I prayed and studied so hard. Fortunately, I had church ties so I had a community to turn in my illness. I felt comforted by the prayers, whether Jesus answered them or not. Whatever gets you through the night. B/c of the Witnesses, God and Jesus had terrfiying aspects to them. It is not as though I was raised in a class religion where Jesus is nice. My God destroys all humans, except JWs.

I've read countless books concerning Jesus and suffering. Carl Jung's The Problem of Job was very interesting. In my present religion, i can voice my anger towards God and my own doubts. B/c I can vent, I can also accept some grace I could not otherwise. Very confusing topic.

    Why doesnt god heal amputees?

    Not ONE amputee healing.....

My brother is a life-long atheist. He is also an amputee. He has a lot of fun with this question. Trust me, it is really powerful coming from an amputee! LOL. Nobody offers to pray that he is healed. Nobody. So funny.

"Hey, could you pray that my leg grows back?"

    Silence.
