Would that answer be in the "lot of folks" or in the very peculiar. . . . Chariklo

There are a lot of contrary opinions to the OP's conclusions . . . many of them presenting valid information. There are a good number of nice, clear, logical answers. I'm sorry if they appear boring or confusing. Read the entire thread and all will become clear.

The apology was offered because I've obviously misinterpreted your question . . . as you still maintain. I accept that . . . whether you accept the apology or not, is not my choice.

Wow, that would be very politically incorrect if you were in the UK, because it is fortunately not the case at all in this country. Can it possibly be so in the US? I thought the USA was the country where the American Dream held sway, and I thought the American Dream meant that anyone can do anything, no matter how poor. Am I wrong there? Please tell me! Our public housing is rather good, by the way. Room for improvement, but not bad at all.

There is nothing politically incorrect about what I said. Our public housing is for people that have no resources and are suffering from some pretty extreme poverty by American standards. There are other programs that may susidize rental payments to help those that are struggling and such, but for those in public housing, they generally have limited options. I don't think I'm incorrect in saying that the vast majority of them do not have college degrees. This is not a comment on their intelligence or their initiative, but on their circumstances. College is expensive in the US. There are federal programs to help the poorest and then less offered to those who have a bit more, but that doesn't always pay the entire bill and circumstances may be too hard to overcome even with financial aid. I'm sure Shelby would have more accurate details.

This thread isn't about whether people in public housing have college degrees or not.

Please don't de-rail it for another 2 pages, Chariklo.

Chariklo . . . what are your thoughts on the OP? . . . and some of the other views presented?

Please can you explain what you mean, Palmtree, for elucidation?

Thanks for asking, Size. I'll think on it overnight.

I, too, would very much want to see all the evidence (and the means to compile that evidence) that brought this man to his hypothesis. (I wouldn't put it past the hypothesis stage yet)

    The premise is interesting though.

I think people are getting dumber in the sense that we rely far too much on technology to do our thinking for us. We also listen to the experts rather than attempt to learn it for ourselves. (we in all of this is totally in general, I know that some do their best to learn as much as they can, but many do not) So we trust the technology and we trust the 'experts'.

We aren't exercising the muscle that is our brain(yes, I know it is not a muscle) as much as we once had to. So it becomes a use it or lose it, deal.

Perhaps we're stronger in the scientific/technology aspect... but we've become weaker in the philosphy, the great thinkers, the reasoning, (and there is reasoning in philosophy), the imagination of what could be, what we can envision, etc.

    I think we need both.

    Peace,

    tammy

Nothing we do or don't do will affect the DNA in our gametes. The article seems to suggest there is a genetic change, but evolution doesn't work like that.

NC, do calm down and read a post before answering it!

I said it would be politically incorrect if you were in the UK. You're not. I was just so surprised to find things so unequal in the USA, given the American Dream we keep hearing about. End of story.

Not sure why you took that as me not being calm, or not responding to how it is in America---but I explained how it was in America in response to you comparing it to the UK. I'm going back to the OP now.

It can seem that way in some areas. But there is a paradox here . . . the technology itself is the result of some pretty high quality thinking. Medicine, space travel, to name just a couple are achieving some amazing results from some very complex thinking. There are so many facets to the subject . . . that hard and fast conclusions will still be a long way off I feel.
