I'm not sure that is actually new. I think it is something that comes into rotation and is likely 'need-driven', but not a new tactic for them.

It appears as a subtle way to get R&F to decide to LEND even a modest amount to the Society, but then allow the Society to keep it upon their death.

I believe many old folks would not completely understand all the implications. They could think it a good idea to lend a few extra bucks, knowing they can ask for it back at any time. But when they kick the bucket, heirs have no rights to it.

So they are soliciting for funds "across the pond" so as not to raise suspicion here in the USA with all the notoriety that is and will take place with the Conti Case! These guys in New York are pretty clever aren’t they?

    A couple of notes:

-- I've never seen anything like that in the US. I wonder if it is an English-only thing? Does anyone know if this type of letter has been sent in other countries?

-- It's not really worded as a solicitation of funds. It reads more as a "if you choose to do this, here is how".

Of course, one could read the very act of even sending such a letter as a solicitation of sorts. However, there is nothing in the letter that suggests "you ought to do this". In fact there is even a caution that JWs should make sure that their estate has enough money left over to "provide for your future care".

-- This doesn't seem like a new arrangement. Congregations (in the US) have been instructed to do this with any "extra" congregation funds for something like the past 20 years. It's not particularly surprising that they would have come up with a similar arrangement for individuals.

Overall, it is of moderate interest, but certainly nothing like a "smoking gun".

Thank you very much for that info, Ray!!

Thanks to AudeSapere and Blondie for giving us 'clickable' links, too...

    Wow....

There's no bottom to their greed, is there?

Tell them they can shut down the Hadron collider at CERN; we've found an AUTHENTIC black hole in existence on earth!!

And it's relatively stable - except for the financial reserves of cult members that it's greedily consuming...

    black hole of the Watchtower

    I wish I had "photoshop"....
