Can someone please explain to me how Mr. Grundy comes up with the following statement?

1921 - In 1921 Witnesses were forbidden vaccinations (Golden Age 1921 October 12 p.17)

MW Dictionary defines forbidden as:

: not permitted or allowed

Wasn't Golden Age issue written by a variety of contributors, unlike the Watchtower? The article is written by a Mrs. Maygrove. Can we be sure that this wasn't just her opinion, and not a firm doctrinal matter that all JWs were to follow?

This campaign against vaccinations was repeated in many of the publications. When I was little, I remember listening to the old timers talk about it and how they were not allowed to even vaccinate their pets or spay and neuter them.

Jwfacts is a very well documented web site. Those of us, like me, who have gone to the meetings for five decades actually remember most of the articles and what we have taught in the past. I have read just about everything on every page of jwfacts.com and I am impressed by the integrity of the information presented there.

I am not sure when "that campaign" came about, I know my GrandMother at 16 went swimming with her family and could never walk again! She contracted Polio from sitting in the water from the waist down! That would be around 1919. If my Grandmother went through life and having children and a traveling husband, because the b####rds said she couldn't be vaccinated, then I will be more po-ed than ever! It does make sense to me. this makes me want to look at this even more. I was with her when she died, I wish I could have told her it was all bs.( I was a very young girl) To tell someone "We like you husbands pension, and you will never die......and you will walk again! The Lady had POLIO! I am not happy at the moment.........not at any one here.

After you think you have found something, do your own investigation of the literature referenced, and unreferenced, so that you don't get any nasty surprises if you bring it up with a JW family member.

Haboob48, that is a sad story. Polio was devastating to so many people. Some people died from it. My uncle had it but it only effected one of his thumbs. Thank goodness it is basically under control now, but now I hear it is making a comeback in certain parts of the world.

BTW, I was born around 52, and some JWs still took a dim view of vaccinations in my youth, having crises of conscience over getting vaccinations to be Need Greaters in countries that had enough cults already.

TurtleTurtle, I appreciate your point. The 1921 article may not have been taken to be forbidding vaccinations for all followers, so the word forbidden may be a bit strong. I will consider how to re-word it.

Vaccinations certainly was banned though, such as "Vaccination is a direct violation of the everlasting covenant that God made with Noah after the flood." Golden Age 1931 Feb 4 p.293 May JWs suffered due to this, particularly children that were expelled from schools because they were not vaccinated.

Both the Watchtower, Golden Age/Awake are written by a variety of contributors. These days they just no longer reveal the name.
