I use olive oil a lot but if I am going to sautee meat and need a lot of heat I will use something like groundnut or rapeseed which has a neutral flavour and a much higher smoke point. Olive oil starts to burn at about 190c

I sometimes use toasted sesame oil in oriental cooking for flavour and for making curries I use ghee.

Olive oil and balsamic make a great foccacia "dip". - LouBelle

As an aside, when I was a child, Sunpat Peanut Butter was really oily, oil used to lay on the top and you had to mix it in.

Nowadays Sunpat Peanut butter is dry and cloys, so I bought a bottle of Peanut oil, I pour some into my jar of peanut butter and hey presto!, its like the good old days with lovely oily peanut butter!

It's very tricky to actually cook with olive oil, as it has a low smoke point as has been mentioned.

IMHO better to use it as a condiment.
