Talked to an elder today

Yeah minimus, when I disagree with his perception, he has no way to respond because he can't work that angle any longer and he has no basis for an argument. As some have pointed out here, they have a mental script to work from and they cannot separate from it. When he separated from the mental script, that's when his public speaking/persuasiveness skills went down the drain.

Yeah tiki and Isaac, he made some good use of scare tactics. "If you don't conform, God's gonna mess you up!"

Thanks 00DAD. I used to be a half-decent writer but I haven't done too much of it as of late.

If I did send him an email telling him what's what, it would probably take him 3 hours to read. I don't think he has any clue that I no longer believe in his Judeo-Christian god.

    MrFreeze,

The elder who visited you was right about one thing----nothing you can say will make him think it isn't the Truth. If only he would do his own unbiased research with an open mind. Some things are too much to hope for. Well at least it seems you have a good relationship with your mom.

Yeah it was pretty bad there for a bit but she seems to have lightened up over the last couple months.

I'm working on a letter that I would send if I were to send anything to this particular elder. Don't think I would ever actually send it but I'll post it here when I finish it because it might be helpful for somebody here.

In discussions like that, if they keep pressing, I usually get to the crunch by saying "Look, I simply don't believe Jehovah prefers that infants and children should die instead of receiving a blood transfusion, and I don't want anything to do with a religion that believes such a fanatical thing. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for having such a fanatical, unreasonable stance, preferring the letter of the law to the sanctity of life. And if Jehovah does actually prefer that infants and children die instead of receiving a life-saving blood transfusion, then I don't want to worship a God like that."

That always sends them retreating with their tails between their legs.

I dont care about dates particularly as the calendar changed in the middle ages by the decree of a king (French i think) and as i always say petrol tomorrow is still $1.66 a litre, ( x 4.55 for you americans per gallon) I am of simpler mould.. like the little matter of protecting paedophiles and perhaps the matter of downing education in general......

What support would your elder have given me when told that my children had been sexually abused by a 'perfect by performance' brother?

but u know what? How different is his responses? "uh uh uh u know the end is coming soon." It's like a really bad re-run. You see the question thrown out. You see the confusion and then possible anger, followed by: "Jehovah is the one tru God and u can't change that". Or some other tourets like response. Sad, really sad.

Ya u were sandbagged but it was kinda funny. My regards to Keith Stone

Just remember, Jehovah is the living God and nothing can change that.

Such a cliche. I'd have asked him "What does that mean exactly....and what does it have to do with anything really? Did I say he wasn't living or indicate that he could die someday?"

Don't stick your head in the sand until it is too late."

I'd have said "Stop accusing me of burying my head in the sand, I spent X number of years with my head buried under stifling JW teachings and I'm now having a look around. You sound like you have condemned me already in your mind....let God handle the judging ."

The last time 2 elders visited me it was because I had written to the Society regarding the U.N. foolishness.....The Society took the liberty of sending their reply to the elders with instructions that they should relay it to me. I asked for the letter from them; "NO". Iasked for a photcopy of the letter; "NO". Iasked them to let me read the letter; "NO". I asked them to read the letter to me; "NO".......by now I was thinking 'why the hell did you come here???Just to irritate me?Because you surely are' ------tho the thought went unspoken, but about this time I re-capped the whole dumb episode to them and asked if I had it right and they said, 'we're sure you understand that this isn't the type of thing the Society would want to end up on the internet'........NO?, Really?......My suggestion to them was to spit on me and slap my face, it would be less insulting than the stupidity they had just exposed me to. I then invited them to leave....and not to return; ever, without asking my permission to step foot on my property again.

I guess the word got out amongst the rest of the eldiots. In the 2 years since NO ONE has come by (Halelujah) and I've had only 1 phone request to come and see me. I knew it was to come to the memorial and I told him 'no chance of that happening in this lifetime.......maybe the next'. I hope they're done with me for good. I certainly am with them!
