Smiddy I have read it and I think it's very good once you get past the religion bashing at the beginning where I do think Dawkins goes on a bit and is rather offensive to religious people. The thing is if he is trying to draw people to evolution then why insult them? Interested to know what you think about the last chapter when he mentions miracles. I found his comments about miracles a little odd.

You might also enjoy The Science Delusion by Rupert Sheldrake. He is a biologist and has worked at Cambridge and Harvard. He thinks scientists have become rather dogmatic in their assertions. Haven't finished it myself yet and I don't agree with everything he says but it is quite an eye - opener as to some of the motivating factors affecting scientists - peer pressure and getting funding for research among them.

an atheist would by necessity have to be omnipresent himself to be able to declare that God doesn't exist, having looked everywhere for him and finding none. - Perry

In exactly the same way that you can't show that "Russell's celestial teapot" doesn't exist.

As an atheist I am always open to evidence to the contrary as Dawkins explained in the book that is the title of this thread.

People who deny evolution are ignorant of the facts- willfully or otherwise - or they are religiously motivated.

There is no need to woo them to truth, just present the evidence and its up to them to accept or eject it.

Science uncovers truth, it doesn't need anybody's approval.

    Perry's ad hominem attack ..

    1. the doctrine or belief thatthereis no God. Similar to amoral meaning = without morals ...Concerning these morals are these the same morals of the disgusting evil and violent morals of Yahweh, spoken about in the bible ?

The suggestion that you should read his book and try to disprove it as you go is ridiculous.

LOL---well that is part of what critical thinking is. I guess encouraging someone to use critical thinking is ridiculous? Interesting.

    As an atheist...

    Cofty,

Even the great Dawkins himself retreats into the area of agnosticism when cornered as to a characterization of himself. Are you claiming to be omnipresent?

I liked the book which I listened to on a audio file, insightful, interesting but can be a bit dry in certain places.

I think everyone should read or listen to it for it is informative on topic.

I don't think anyone would characterize him as being GREAT, including himself.

A matter of fact he's so openly intellectual honest, he's come forward and stated that he's partially agnostic concerning

the concept of there being a supernatural deity , but of course he weighs his personal perception upon there being no supernatural beings.

Are you that openly honest Perry ?

Perry - Dawkins describes himself as an atheist.

Page 69-77 of the book is under the subtitle of "The Poverty of Agnosticism".

You haven't read the book have you?

Clearly Dawkins is a very confused man.

Cofty, are you going ot answer my question about how you can claim to be an atheist since that REQUIRES you to be omnipresent. This is very simple logic.
