perhaps your question really is "Why has God remained so hidden for the last 2,000 years?" - Yadda

Or - "Why has God remained so hidden for the last 250,000 years?"

The hiddeness of god is a very powerful argument against theism.

God has his own plan and his own schedule. But don't think that just because he has not revealed himself in person to you personally, that he doesn't appear to others. Jehovah appeard to me, so I'm fortunate to know for a fact that he exists. I know others would like this. This will come in time, but for now, God is active among his chosen elect for now. The rest of the world willl get to know God personally a little later, especially during Armageddon. There is a purpose for his secretiveness with the general public for now.

God definitely exists and he proved this by appearing to me personally in 1992.

Again, one must not assume that God does not appear to humans today, it's just that he doesn't appear to everyone, but only to some select ones.

Why do you think he has been hidden from the vast majority of humankind for 250 000 years Lars.

Can you suggest a possible reason for that?

Only God! The question remains - is he missing you?

To clear up the confusion there are hundreds of gods. All the gods are welcome to my next party but they will have to bring their own ambrosia. Thrones will not be provided as I expect them to be on the dance floor. They can take their shoes of as I don't want stardust on my carpets. They are welcome to dish out rewards to my friends but can leave all that macho fire and brimstone stuff behind. My hopes of them attending are not high. It will be a miracle if even a dozen turn up.

I agree with the point of the question. Why doesn't God just pop down and say hi, now here's what I want from people? Even if what he wants is nothing. It would clear up a lot of questions. At minimum, he could send an angel powerful enough to do things (miracles) that a fraud could not to convince us that he was what he claimed to be.

If there is an impending armageddon, or if there is some sort of reward system in the afterlife, wouldn't a kind and reasonable god want us to know the details to save ourselves?

Personally, I don't think any gods exist. So they can't appear.

If God cares, why not prove atheists like me wrong? The things believers offer as proof are very very weak to the rest of us. Why not make his existence undeniable? Or even hard to deny?

Being born in the org and leaving err fading for 20 some odd years i can't deny that god exists. However i think he created this planet the universe,man,etc.... and then he moved on to other projects.I could never understand as a kid why he wouldnt talk to us if we are his children. My father a p.o. would always give the standard answer...but it really bothered me for i use to reason if god would just speak to all of mankind he would not have to destroy so many of us at armageddon. That and the fact that the bible was written in riddles and unclear statements did it for me, i was like why wouldnt god just say the U.N. is the beast in the holy place and christdom is the harlot on the beast that represents....etc.Also the gen of 1914 will not past before the big day i mean explain it to me like im a 3 year old give it to me in black and white no gray areas.

Joe Grundy- Thank you. I have been reading and watching Hitchens and Sam Harris. They and others like them make really logical and compelling arguments.

Tec- (in this part of the world at least) who would kill someone for their faith. Not at the moment anyway. But if there were an almighty caring god or even Jesus Christ himself, why would he sit back for so long letting people slaughter, rape and torture eachother? Just to prove a point that Satan has no right to rule but god does? To me god would have a better argument for his right to rule if he actually stepped in.

Well, I don't think any religion is the correct religion.

But the One I do know is Christ. What about people who never learn or even hear about Jesus?

transhuman68 -2,000 years ago, it was possible to fool people into believing almost anything- and they did. Thats exactally how I feel. People would believe any story they heard as if it was fact. This is where we have gotten alot of our myths and fokelore.

Joe Grundy-You were born in the west, with a general concept of the modern western god. Had you been born in Saudi Arabia, for example, you would almost certainly have been raised in one of the islamic religions with a concept of allah and your view of Jesus would have been shaped by that - i.e. he was an honourable prophet but his message was superceded by the 'revelations' to Mohammed. To deny that could mean death. Well put. This is what I was trying to get at. Thank you.
