I post on godandscience.org, its got some great discussions and debates at times.

I find it a refreshing site where christians can discuss and debate with other christians ( or skeptics) and you have a wide range of Christian beleifs ranging from Clavinist to RCC to Messianic Jews to atheists.

    This caught my attention...

What you will find is the best of creationary science -

    Is "creationary" a word?

I like to discuss different christian theologies there, but they do have heated debates about evolution over there, an example:

I browsed the lists of articles and it was all the same old tired arguments mixing up origins of the universe with abiognesis with evolution and Anthony Flew etc.

Evolution is a fact - it doesn't require anybody's consent.

    I thought evolution was a theory ?

    FFS!!!!!!!

    Gravity is "only" a theory...

Look up what a scientific theory ACTUALLY is and then come back to us!

I, too, thought that was a great post, Terry.

    Especially in regard to this:

In the same way that you telling someone about the person you've fallen in love with cannot make another person love them (some exceptions)... CAN make you curious enough ABOUT that person to want to know them. To perhaps seek them out so that you can know them too. In that same way, one who knows Christ (and therefore God), can speak about them... and that might make some others curious/interested enough to want to seek them out and get to know them as well.

In answer to the OP, no one can prove to another person that God exists. (or even WHO God is) The most that we can do is witness to Christ, to God, with what we have been given to share. One who has faith might have proof for themselves... but that is personal, and at this time, as far as I know, not seen by someone else. It has to be 'experienced' or 'known' by the person, themselves.

Because as the kingdom of God is within you... this is not an outward thing that someone else can give to you. This comes from Christ and God, and that requires faith. Not faith as an arbitrary demand. But rather, faith, because that lets them IN. Because nothing in you is blocking them (fear, anger, etc... even just fear that it could be true, fear of having to believe, fear of looking foolish, fear of failing) As long as part of you is telling the Spirit of Truth (Christ) to stay away, then He will not force Himself upon you.

I know that Christ and God are real, and I know God through Christ. But I cannot prove them to you, or to anyone.

Can discuss. Can witness. Can share. Can philosophize. Can try and reason. Cannot prove.

    Peace to you,

    tammy

A scientific theory summarizes a hypothesis or group of hypotheses that have been supported with repeated testing. If enough evidence accumulates to support a hypothesis, it moves to the next step—known as a theory—in the scientific method and becomes accepted as a valid explanation of a phenomenon.

When used in non-scientific context, the word “theory” implies that something is unproven or speculative. As used in science, however, a theory is an explanation or model based on observation, experimentation, and reasoning, especially one that has been tested and confirmed as a general principle helping to explain and predict natural phenomena.

Any scientific theory must be based on a careful and rational examination of the facts. In the scientific method, there is a clear distinction between facts, which can be observed and/or measured, and theories, which are scientists’ explanations and interpretations of the facts. Scientists can have various interpretations of the outcomes of experiments and observations, but the facts, which are the cornerstone of the scientific method, do not change.

A theory must include statements that have observational consequences. A good theory, like Newton’s theory of gravity, has unity, which means it consists of a limited number of problem-solving strategies that can be applied to a wide range of scientific circumstances. Another feature of a good theory is that it formed from a number of hypotheses that can be tested independently.

A scientific theory is not the end result of the scientific method; theories can be proven or rejected, just like hypotheses. Theories can be improved or modified as more information is gathered so that the accuracy of the prediction becomes greater over time.

Theories are foundations for furthering scientific knowledge and for putting the information gathered to practical use. Scientists use theories to develop inventions or find a cure for a disease.

A few theories do become laws, but theories and laws have separate and distinct roles in the scientific method. A theory is an explanation of an observed phenomenon, while a law is a description of an observed phenomenon.

Pterist - It would be nice if believers tried to understand what it is the reject.

I understand chritian doctrine thoroughly otherwise I wouldn't have the temerity to argue about why its wrong. Please return the favour.
