Jehovah’s Witnesses (NOT THE WBT$) have had wrong expectations (IT'S ALL THE R&F'S FAULT...WE THE HOLY WBT$ NEVER SAID A THING..PASS THE BLAME FOR WBT$ LIES) about when the end would come.*
Obey the Governing Body and DO MORE or Jehovah will lovingly murder us SOON* (Using anti-matter from Alcyone). How Happifying.
*(Terms and conditions apply and are subject to 'overlapping' or ‘New Light’™or which ever makes the GB appear to be much higher than God!)

I think it's ok for someone to have wrong expectations as to when the end may come as long as your not required to accept them and preach them to gain salvation.

Then Freddie Franz should have kept his ideas to himself.

It's funny how they never mention Proverbs 13:12 when they talk about their constant wrong predictions.
Proverbes 13:12: "Expectation postponed is making the heart sick, but the thing desired is a tree of life when it does come."
They to make my heart sick in a number of ways!

This is ALMOST and admission from the WTBTS, but it's NOT. It really puts the blame back on the people with the EXPECTATIONS - that being - THE FLOCK. The Org isn't saying that THEY are the ones that promoted false dates, but merely stating once again that there are those out there that have wrongly been looking to false dates as the "Time of the End." Huge difference there!!
What is absolutely astounding to me......is where they say that we should now be serving knowing that the End will come at some point in time.....and not to serve for a specific date. This is going to be really, really, really hard for people 35+ years old or older to swallow who have spent their lives slaving away vigorously for free to a real estate and publishing company because they were told that The End was "just around the corner", "any day now", "immanent", and "well within our lifetimes.....soon!!". This is especially true for those of us who were indoctrinated to our core with the whole 1914 and This Generation teachings of ol' Freddy Franz. I am 33, and that sh*t was drummed into me, day in, day out, for the first 14 years of my life. School? College? Career? Marriage? Health? Retirement? You don't have to worry about any of those things, because "The End" is just around the corner, so keep preaching hard and you'll be rewarded with a Chalet with pet tigers and pandas in the New Order. (think illustration from You can Live Forever book).
Now, with this one article, 1914, The Generation, and all of the "imminent" warnings are like some joke - on US!! They have now aligned their thinking with that of mainstream Christendom/Christianity.......serve God as best you can, and know that "The End" will come at some point in time in history. No one knows the day or the hour after all! Wow....just wow!!!!! So what exactly is the reason to belong to this American-made pseudo-religious cult again? Devote all of your free time, money, and energy and be brow-beaten by the Elders who are supposed to look after you? Will your possessions to the Cult upon your death? No support system whatsoever? Bleed out on the operating table to the vengeful Governing Body OverLords? No wonder people and especially youth are leaving in droves.
As one poster pointed out above......this REEKS of desperation. The Internet has them hemorrhaging members, especially the youth who feel this is all one big, sick joke, and are just biding their time until they turn 18 and can run away from this life of poverty and servitude.

MINIMUS:
It sounds like they are trying to prevent another exodus when 2014 arrives pretty soon. I suppose they don't want another repeat of what happened after the 1975 fiasco.
So, once again, guilt and blame is being cleverly shifted to the rank and file JWs.
WING COMMANDER:
Your post says the whole sad story!

The January 1st Watchtower Admits That JWs Have Been Wrong As To Their Expectations Of The End!...
That article exposes really what the Heads of this organization are cunningly tried to imply that since they have been
in a state of constant growth and persistence, they cant be false prophets because god would have vanquished
the organization years ago. It really is a devious play exploiting peoples ignorance of the organization's past from within the organization
and outside. Words one could use to describe this organization, exploitive, manipulative, corrupt, devious but always self supportive
toward their own set power and control .

They were "on the watch". They wasted people's lives since 1872 in expectation of 1874. They wasted people's lives in expectation of 1878. They wasted people's lives in expectation of 1914. They wasted people's lives in expectation of 1975--and many of us are alive to remember 1975. They continue expecting people to waste their lives in expectation of dates in the future. At least with Harold Camping (and OBVES), they didn't keep extending the date beyond 2011.
And they did worse. It is never enough to do a reasonable and prudent amount. Someone might be able to sustainably put in 7 hours a month of field circus, yet they want such to pious-sneer. Another person might reasonably have a moderate amount of spare funds to donate, yet they expect more and defraud them into donating more (usually with fake deficits and Armageddon threats). Education beyond the bare minimum is just about banned. Entertainment is banned or severely restricted--and could become banned any Grand Boasting Session or Washtowel study article or Kingdumb Misery now. Getting quality items is restricted or censored in the name of materialism. You are always in full emergency mode, yet the emergency has been ongoing since 1872.

It's a half page article in the public Watchtower- they want everyone to see it. So what if this is a kick in the teeth for the older Witnesses who believed what was taught in the 20th century? It doesn’t matter- even if they leave: the Borg only needs the young & dumb ones, who will put in long hours recruiting and adding value to Watchtower real estate assets.
