When my son was little we received all sorts of unsolicited advice on discipline at the meetings. He was very active-nothing held his attention for long. One meeting an older sister sat behind us and after the meeting suggested we start bringing a wooden spoon. What alot of nerve she had, I proceeded to tell her that I thought we were doing just fine with our son without a wooden spoon. I should have told her that if my son was so distracting to her to sit up front instead of the very back row.
BEATING KIDS IN THE WASHROOM

The accounts listed by all who have posted before me in this thread are consistent with my experiences as a JW. I can remember seeing kids getting beaten with belts at the district assembly because they couldn't sit still in 90 - 100 degree temperatures for 8 hours on a wooden seat at Dodger Stadium in July. The washroom and the ministry school room were also routinely used for beatings, as was the exterior of the front entrance to the kingdumb hall. I remember sitting next to some fine witnesses at a district assembly who brought an actual paddle with holes drilled in it to the assembly. I guess they were really looking forward to beating their kids and actually planning on it.
What a sick cult. I was very glad to leave as a young teenager, and have never regretted my decision. When I look back, all I remember is misery and unhappiness. Life is too short to waste on the diarrhea diatribe of the watchtower.

Yes everyone. Keep these stories coming!! Whatever it takes.
I have seen these things happening, especially at conventions where they make you sit in a chair for days listening to all the spiritual food coming at you from wise men standing there in black and grey suits.! I remember slapping my kid around at conventions, because he would not listen to those men, as I saw many fathers and mothers do the same!
Shoot me!! Who are these men that make 6 million people act like this?

Yup, seen this, too. The same fat sister beat the snot out of her children....one was hit so hard in the face that my mom thinks the mother knocked him out cold, but my mother was so upset she just got out of the bathroom with her kids.
I knew this lady....a fat, unsatisfied woman, a real bitch. Her kids were not sweethearts, but would've been better if she didn't tear three new holes in their asses when she beat them.
I hate abusers. I would consider the death penalty for them if it were allowed. They shouldn't be allowed to roam free.
And of course, most of these people were in good standing.
Good ol' rod!

This topic really hit home with me. I was never spanked very often(too scared to be bad!), but my nephews and nieces got it regularly - and for the very serious offense of whispering during the meeting - how dare they! To tell you how sick this is, about two months ago my Dad had the gall to say he should have spanked me more when I was little, that way maybe I wouldn't have left the borg. My goodness, can you get any sicker than that? I really don't blame him though because there is immense pressure, especially if you're an elder or ms to "keep your kids in line".
I've told my husband that my family is to never get custody of our infant son if anything were to happen to us. So we're picking about 10 guardians from his side of the family.

At our hall it tended to be done in a sly way; some of the mums(why always them?)would ...PICK UP the child and then FORCE them down really hard; whilst in their seats, all the while whispering threats and SQUEEZING them really hard on the arms, and pinch them hard.I think as it was done in a whisper and in situ they thought it acceptable...no one noticed... you should have seen the MARKS and their terrified little faces...it was the threatening whispers I hated to see more than anything else; I always wondered what they could say to a two year old that would stop it dead in it's tracks?

I am in Toronto and this happened at our hall also! I almost forgot about that, I think I got it once or twice too. Where was the Oakwood Hall on Elesmere? We were at Hague Park I`m 33.

I remember hearing the beatings from down in the KH basement when I was a kid. It seemed to always be the same children getting it every meeting too. None of them are JWs anymore, and in fact, one of them committed suicide about 12 years ago.
But I think the JWs are on a new kick to keep their kids quiet at meetings. It's called Ritalin. One of my daughter's classmates (a JW) gets her dose just before meetings only (her parents are divorced and mom is saving the meds for the "most important times").
Anyone else noticed this trend??
Among pediatric nurses, this is called "medicating the child to sedate the parents".

This truly was a trend, I remember hearing kids screaming outside, as their parent was beating on them. It scared me at the time, I grew up had my own kids, never laid a hand on them. Children are children, they are young, and their attention span is short many times. They have a real hard time sitting for hours and doing nothing. I always felt sorry for them, and can't blame them one bit if in time when they grew up, left the truth. I think such treatment for little ones is terrible. Now you would think if that goes on someone should report such loving and caring parents to the authorities. I mean you can spank a child, then you can beat a child. Most of what I heard was on the line of beating. I wonder how the parents would feel if someone took them out and beat the crap out of them. How awful it must have been for so many kids when there was an assembly and they had to endure that all day long. It even got worse when there was a talk on disciplining your kids. MAYBE SOME PARENTS NEED A TIME OUT.
