I don't have chains. I have giant mud/snow tires and 4WD. So far, so good.
About that 60-70 car crash, evidently there was one original crash with a semi, as I understand it. But as the other drivers passed the accident and applied their brakes they slid out on ice, until there were just a lot of crashes all around, both directions. I saw pictures of some of the cars, they were pretty smashed up but apparently no fatalities. At least, that's what it said on the Medford news.
Yikes, I was planning to leave Saturday to drive up I5 ,from the Bay area to Washington State.
There's a winter storm warning going up there and in the Sierras from Friday to Sunday, Lisa.
LisaRose, check the traffic cams especially the ones past Yreka and into Oregon. The only real difficult place would be Siskiyou pass, I imagine, as long as they are plowing the highway.

One of my favorite commercials of all time, hortensia. I look out for it every winter.
Thanks for the warnings Hortensia and Mrs. Jones. I have been tracking the storm, it might be an issue, but the worst of the storm may be passed by the time we get to Mt. Shasta. We will pack our cold weather gear, just in case, and we altered our plans slightly to make Saturday a shorter day, we are going to stop in Grants pass. We are used to driving in snow, 10 years in Colorado, and my husband lived in Alaska for a few years, So hopefully we can handle it, but if they have chain requirements, we will be SOL, we never used them in Clorado, You just keep going until you slide off the road and are greasy side up, lol Hortensoia, I will wave as I pass.
I wanted to fly, but my Hubble just got a new car, he had use it or lose it vacation days, and he would not be dissuaded, so drive we must!
