Yes, "good" (So-and-so is now an unbaptized publisher) and "bad" (So-and-so is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses) announcements are still made. So are announcements about people being in the hospital. And as sir82 wisely pointed out, they still have to read the Society's long-winded letters from the platform, which defeats the entire point of the new arrangement because that was always the one really time-consuming item.

The conspicuously missing items from the old days are the accounts report and the cleaning assignment, but I think they've started announcing cleaning assignments again from the platform (take a wild guess why). And they also announced the accounts one month recently when they had a shortfall. So, in short, the elders obviously know this new directive is one of the stupidest things to happen in a while and are ignoring it when they see good reason to announce something.

I'd love to know what utter bonehead thought of this and managed to get it printed in the KM.

what utter bonehead thought of this

You say that as if some category other than "utter bonehead" exists in the Society's service dept.

I think the organization within its entirety, from the GB right down below is starting to formatively crumble apart.

The WTS. as a religious organization is starting to self acknowledge within itself by virtue of historical dogma

that the viable strength of the organization is slowly winding itself down.

So concerned about this that the GB put out of video with the GB members themselves stating repetitively

how the organization is proclaiming and teaching the gospel Truth, even to say the C T Russell was a faithful proclaimer

and preacher of the bible truths ... cough cough

In the 2013 January issue of the WT. they very unusually stated that the JWs have in the past made proclamations

toward making probable assumptions about certain incoming dates, regarding the eventually beginning of Armageddon etc.

An obvious attempt to white wash their past more or less, of course they didn't come out and say that the editorial

leaders from the past intensionally did so to increase the circulation of their published goods, that would have been too

    cutting and abruptly truthful.

In spite of all of this, the GB today are pressed to continue running this publishing house irregardless of the organization's past

as sure as they expect their monthly pay cheques from the WTS. $$$

Seriously, guys, I'm really starting to think that almost everything they're doing is to pare the R&F down to a more manageble size on purpose.

I thought the change was that there is no scheduled 5 minutes for 'announcements' in the service meeting. Around here they still make a number of announcements at different times, but it is not on any schedule

Yup, it's not strictly no announcements. They have got rid of the formal slot each Service Meeting and now the brother who does the first item in the SM will make any required announcements (typically letters). There is not space for regular field service announcements, health updates, greetings etc. etc.
