How do these figures compare to the SDA. I always considered the SDA, some are cousins, the smarter religion of the two.

Londo said, " 2012 baptized: 32,039"- for the US? The ENTIRE US only 32,039 were baptized?
So how does that work? Aren't the baptismal conventions what? twice a year? so at a convention only a small handful would be baptized? I remember seeing pictures of years ago and there would be long lines of people waiting. Doesn't this mess up their anal timing of everything? 2 minutes for this, 1 minute for that, 8 minutes ......... oh, they probably just have more time for indocrination rhetoric huh?

Carla,
I just rechecked. Yep, that was the right number for the US.
What is interesting is:
1,156,150 (2012 average publishers)
- 1,145,723 (2011 average publishers)
10427 (increase in average publishers)Yet, 32039 baptized.

I'm sorry if I sound dense here-
1,156,150 (2012 average publishers)
- 1,145,723 (2011 average publishers)
10427 (increase in average publishers)Yet, 32039 baptized.--
So why the 10 thou increase? were the 30 thou newly baptized already counted or are they not annoying people on Sat morn? Should there be some df'ing in the future?
(side note- why the heck do they call them publishers anyway? sigh, I shall have to re-look that up as I have forgotten)

wha happened?
as soon as they start turning in time, they are counted. Even if they aren't baptized

I would deduce that most of the “increase” is not from the newly baptized, but from those inactive or irregular reporting time.
According to dictionary.com, the word publisher originally meant “one who proclaims publicly ”. The modern definition is “a person or company whose business is the publishing of books, periodicals ”, which is much closer to the truth.
I'm sure the history of how that term got to be used in reference to JWs would be interesting.

These figures recall to my mind a passage from Luke’s Gospel. “But the angel said to [the shepherds]: ‘Have no fear, for look! I am declaring to you good news of a great joy that all the peoples will have.’ ” —Luke 2:10
I quote the Gospel because to me these figures are indeed “good news of a great joy.” At last we may be seeing the beginning of the end for this execrable cult. I don’t expect some monumental collapse tomorrow or even in the near future, but I do believe we are seeing stagnation which will be followed shortly by a real contraction—at least in developed countries. It may take a while before the trend manifests itself in the developing world. It will be interesting to see what spin the WTS puts on these figures whenever they are discussed in a Watchtower Study meeting.
I thought all along that Memorial partakers would top 12,000 this year and they have. I won’t be surprised to see the number crest over 13,000 next year. I think this shows that more Witnesses are growing unhappy with their lot and want something better so they are talking themselves into the belief that they are of the anointed. Of course, partakers still make up only a fraction of one percent of all Witnesses worldwide.
Four months ago on another thread several of us said the Governing Body would soon claim to be the only members of the “faithful and discreet slave” class. That has now happened. The next development we anticipate will be the WTS declaring that the number 144,000 given in the book of Revelation is symbolic. Should that come to pass, I think we will see the number of partakers skyrocket.
