For those who are asking more details about this, i can tell you that he jumped in front of a train in Elizabeth, NJ and this was maybe 2 months ago. He was 21. I cannot provide names for privacy concerns.

Incredibly, my cousin was willing to take her back even after all this, but she says she is tired of having her life micro-managed and is looking for some freedom. She wants to be "out there" . I thought for sure he would be asked to leave Bethel, but it seems that might not be happening.

BTW, on a side note, he works in the IT dept at bethel, and he was telling me that the IT Dept monitors all the computers for downloads and visits to improper and apostate websites, and that they also monitor who downloads their literature from the organization's website.

That is fairly common knowledge. Most adverts companies do that. I do not know if its legal or not.

    Redvip,

When I was in Bethel I knew of a few similar situations where the young wife was making whoopie with a young Bethel stud, but it always seemed like the Husbands were off neglecting the wives with other activities and leaving them alone.

A horrible shame killing yourself when your so young, if only one of us could have connected with the lad,,,,,,

Keeping IP logs of visits and downloads is standard for literally every website.

As for the keeping track of what sites are visited, I assume you're referring to computers at Bethel. That's perfectly legal. If you're using company equipment, whether it's the computer or the internet connection there, they can monitor that stuff. Pretty common place in any sort of large work environment.

Really? May be or perhaps. However,Iam inclined to think that this unfortunate lad was 'between a rock and a hard place' or 'between the devil and the deep blue sea'. You have disfranchised JWs who hate us apostates because many misunderstand us as well as hate the Watchtower or their mother organisation for misleading them. They really find themselves with nowwhere to go.

the IT Dept monitors all the computers for downloads and visits to improper and apostate websites

It would be straight-forward for Bethel to monitor who visits their sight, but all they will have is the IP address. This is not as revealing as it sounds. More than one computer can be using the same IP address. Even if they somehow knew from which computer their site was accessed, this doesn't mean they know who was using it. All they will have is a rough idea where in the world the visitors access the Internet from, what spec their computer is, etc.. They cannot take your internet service provider to court to obtain your name and address. Neither do I expect they have the expertise to hack computers or collect credit card details to find out people's names.

As for the monitoring of apostate sites, are you sure your relative is not embarrased not to have a real job and trying to sound cleverer than he is, or protect people by trying to frighten people away from 'dangerous' apostate websites?

The apostate websites are not on the Watchtower servers (the JW.org website actually runs on a secure army databank - very strange!), unless this JW.net site etc. are a weird tactic to grow the organisation, or track apostates. Basically, you can only monitor visits to your own website/servers. Bethel won't have a clue who is visiting apostate sites. They are not using visitor details to send round elders. Even if this site was a trap run by Bethel to catch the IP addresses of apostates, they won't really be able to do much with the information.

They only recently managed to tidy up their website, and implement latest technology - it previously looked very dated. There is no Watchtower Library app, most publications are still used in paper form (probably because most JWs have no uni-educated, low-paid jobs, can't afford a tablet) - I don't think they the Bethel programming team can be large or highly-skilled.

"Basically, you can only monitor visits to your own website/servers. Bethel won't have a clue who is visiting apostate sites"

This is not accurate at all. Most organizations will run a proxy server in their network, and any decent proxy server will have internet filtering, which not only controls access to specific URLS, but most importantly keep logs of any URLs visited.

You are both right but talking about different things. WT can monitor what URLs are requested by any computers on their internal LAN - i.e. a brother goes from a WT PC to a porn site then WT can track it.

WT can track the incoming IP address of any request made onto jw.org but cannot find much info out as per the info above.

WT CANNOT track requests made to any other site. Your and my surfing to this site cannot be tracked unless we happened to be using a device connected to the WT LAN.

Not understanding,,how would he not be asked to leave Bethel? I don't see that 'they' would be allowed to stay after that.
