How many decades/centuries before 1914 becomes irrelevant?

The organisation has too many other dates related to 1914 (e.g. 1919, 607) to move it or get rid of it.

If I had to guess, they'll simply keep extending the meaning of generation, and reiterating "the end is even closer now". I've already heard talk along the lines of "a generation was 600+ years in Noah's day". At the same time I suspect they'll fade 1914 from literature over the next decade or two. The end result being 1914 simply never gets mentioned, but is never officially depricated.

As new generations come through the organisation and don't get taught the 1914 doctrine they may drop it.

1914 is 2520 years after the kings in the line of David lost their sovereignty. The prophecy was that the kings would be on Jehovah's throne until Jesus. That did not happen when Jehoiakim bowed to Babylon in 607 and the prophesy was paused for 2502 years until 1914.

    It will always be relevant.

    Why so confident about 1914?

    There's no basis for it.

But I suspect you already know that.

There's a certain... ethos... to your post.

You mean they still talk about 1914? You're kidding!

1914 barely gets a mention anymore in the Public edition of The Watchtower (4 articles since 2010), and never in any depth. It's still mentioned occasionally in the Study edition.

It's pretty obvious that the Adventist movement and subsequently Russell's Wachtower went beyond scripture by speculating in end time eschatology. However, unlike the Watchtower the Adventist groups did not change the core salvation message of being "Born from above" or "Born Again" and continued to encourage personal spiritual growth in Christ in the sanctification process.

Which makes the situation more difficult for the WBTS because the majority of its members have been thought that they are NOT in Christ, not spiritual, based on their "New Good News" of the invisible King ruling through them as the chosen FDS in 1914/1919 to announce the gathering of the "EARTHLY CLASS", (1935) all based on dates, which have now proven to be in error. So they can't bury the dates as they go hand in hand with their assumed authority and changed gospel. They will falter soon.

It's called "moving the goal posts". The WatchTower company is a master of the tactic. 1914 is one end of a rubberband chronology. No more end of the world blind alleys.

Remember - It's not about credibility, not even a pretense. It's about Disfellowshipping and shunning. "We will fuck you up good!"

    From the 3/1/2004 WT:

'AT Pentecost 33 C.E., Jesus appointed a "slave" to provide food at the proper time for his "domestics." In 1914, Jesus was enthroned as King, and soon it was time to inspect that "slave."'

The first sentence of this study article, a so-called "bible truth," was eliminated in the matter of a couple hours this past October.

What stops them from saying that 1914 was a significant date, yet it is not the date that Jesus was enthroned as king?

Not getting rid of 1914 per se, but changing the meaning it has had for decades.

JWFACTS: Just start the seven times from the fall of Bablyon and release of the Jews. Say "God released them in 537, but by not restablishing his kingly line showed in 537 that the gentile times has started." Most JWs would miss the whole irony of a 1984 start date. Why 1984, because it was 3.5 years after Ray Franz had been removed and the temple cleansed. Jesus arrived in 1984 to find the organisation clean. A better argument than 1919, since at least in 1984 there was a Governing Body.

    Paul -- Brilliant!

Does the Writing Committee know how to contact you? I suspect the Australian Branch does. (In fact, they'd probably love to get their hands on you......)

They already laid the foundation to last at least another century.

THE WATCHTOWER (STUDY EDITION) DECEMBER 2012

12 Do you share Paul's determination? Though living a life of faithfulness is not always easy, we know that it brings Jehovah's blessing and approval, and that is what makes one truly successful. (Prov. 10:22) We benefit now, and we certainly can expect blessings in the future. (Read Mark 10:29, 30.) Hence, we have every reason to rest our hope, "not on uncertain riches, but on God, who furnishes us all things richly for our enjoyment." We ‘safely treasure up for ourselves a fine foundation for the future, in order that we may get a firm hold on the real life.' (1 Tim. 6:17-19) Yes, we can be absolutely sure that a hundred years from now, even a thousand years or more from now, we will be able to look back and say, "I definitely chose the course of real success!"
