Don't get a Harley, unless you like that biker look that so many middle aged men and "wanna look tough" people are attracted to. Get something with some real style like a vintage Italian scooter, maybe a '67 Lambretta SX200 or mid-60's Vespa GS. The slower speeds will keep you from killing yourself and you won't need to wear all that dreadful leather!

OK, Ms Lilacs, here you go:
chopper - slang for penis and also a 1970's popular English bicycle with a banana seat, now a cult classic

shari, low riders rock! but like you said, harder to control. the average dry weight of a Dyna Low Rider (most recent models) would be about 630 lbs. whereas Sportsters are usually between 450-500 lbs. that makes a big difference. the length in the frame of the bikes is about 10 inches different (sprotster being shorter) and a lot narrower. regarding price between the two bikes... in canada and the u.s. the difference averages about $6000-10000 (the sportster being the cheaper of the 2). asuming you'd be buying it brand new.
sooo many choices. i suggest you go to a local bike shop and check out your options. the dealers will be more than happy to help you find something that is suited to your needs/wants . good luck shari, let us know what you decide!(¯`·.¸the agents of oblivion descend upon the sane¸.·´¯)

I like this one.
I admit, I will have to buy it used. The prices on the new are out of my price range

" "stay away from models like the Road King"
I know ladies that ride a RK. I own one too. They are low to the ground and the shield pops right off for intown riding...... "thi... haha, i wasn't implying that a woman shouldn't drive a Road King, as a matter of fact, my first Harley is going to be a Road King. i was simply letting shari know that Road Kings, etc. are "touring" models.. meaning they ARE designed specifically for a person who intends on using their bike as their main vehical, as well as for travelling long and far distances (like visiting biker ralleys ). of course, they don't NEED to be used for those purposes, however, when someone invests in their FIRST bike it may as well be suited to their needs
p.s. shari, there are some good used bikes out there. don't be sad!! hmm, think about this some more and if you are very serious i know some people that could help you find exactly what you are looking for (used) as well as get you a deal. my dad deals and fixes up used bikes in his spare time. email me whenever you want and we could talk more .

Offence taken!!! Mopeds have pedals and large spoked wheels! These beauties look nothing like mopeds! Don't waste your time with a Harley, they'll shake your kidney out of place!

Lilacs Harley's hold their value pretty good. I would look at a Jap copy of one. They are very well built and half the price. They have all the low seated ones that you could ask for.

LB, on the site I looked at, there is an option to rent a bike. I might just think about doing that since the only time I would be riding is during the summer months. There is still hope for me yet.

Renting is an excellent option. I also suggest looking into a riding school. They are pretty inexpensive and it gives you a shot at riding a smaller motorcycle to begin with.
