cofty,
Why not? I'm still looking into it, I haven't formed a distinct opinion of it yet. It would be interesting to hear your insight about it.

AGuest,
what is your interpretation on HOW one eats from this Tree of Life?
Is it merely believing that Jesus can resurrect?
EdenOne - I used to reject evolution and even thought of myself as a bit of an expert on the subject.
It eventually occurred to me that everything I thought I knew about it had come from sources that were critical of evolution. I had never actually read anything written by an evolutionary biologist.
When I did I was amazed by by my previous level of willful ignorance.
Which books about evolution have you studied?
There is no dispute among scientists about evolution - its a fact as certain as anything we know in science. The only people who reject it are evangelical christians and Muslims.
I have been reading about the subject for about 10 years now and its the most fascinating subject you could imagine.
Please take an hour or so to read the posts on this thread that puts together some of the evidence that humans evolved from non-human ancestors.
Millions of christians accept the truth of evolution and reconcile it with their faith. In the long term you are wasting a lot of time writing about theology if your ideas are founded on an impossible foundation. There was no Adam and Eve, no perfection, no fall, no flood, no Noah. These things are facts - you need to take account of them and start from there.
Here is a suggested reading list...
"The making of the fittest" by Sean B Carroll
"Endless Forms Most Beautiful" by Sean B Carroll
"Evolution, what the fossils say" by Donald Prothero
"Why Evolution is true" by Jerry Coyne
"Your Inner Fish" by Neil Shubin
"The Greatest Show on Earth" by Dawkins - summary of some of it here
"Life Ascending" by Nick Lane
AGuest, what is your interpretation on HOW one eats from this Tree of Life?
Ones does so technically by partaking of the "manna" that represents the "leaves" of that Tree, dear Monsieur (peace to you, dear one!). One does so literally, though... by listening to and obeying the "commandments" of that One... even down to the "least" matter (say, how to tie one's shoes). Unfortunately, "they" say that all he commanded is written (in the Bible) and so we're good if we follow that. That is NOT true, however! He STILL speaks to his sheep!
Please note, as to the written "commandments" what HE is recorded to have said, because what HE says isn't necessarily what one may have been told/taught, even as to what has been "written." For instance:
“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell youthat anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
“It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; o r by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’;anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only yourown people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
The point? WHO do we LISTEN... TO? Those that "say/said"? Or...? In that regard, I will add one more:
THEY say that Christ does not speak. But HE is recorded to have said, "MY sheep HEAR... MY voice." John 10:16, 27
What is comes down to, dear one, is... who are YOU going to LISTEN... TO?
Is it merely believing that Jesus can resurrect?
No, dear one. The demons believe (that he is the Son of God)... AND that he can resurrect (as well as bind: "Have you come to abyss us now?"). THEY know... and recognize his authority. Question is... do WE?
Again, peace to you, dear Monsieur!
YOUR servant and a doulos of Christ,
SA
**** what is your interpretation on HOW one eats from this Tree of Life? Is it merely believing that Jesus can resurrect? ***
Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you will have NO LIFE in you !
And Jesus went on to say to his disciples the real meaning....it's the Spirit that Gives Life the flesh is of no use at all. The eating of the Tree of Life which represents Christ, is the gift of Eternal Life that is in our second Adam by means of Holy Spirit.
The treasure of Divine Life in our earthly clay pots that does the good work in us through sanctification onto immortality. In short it is the indwelling Holy Spirit !!! This is the Spiritual life of unity of the Father and Son and now Christians, .....that you may dwell in us and "we" Father and Son dwell in you !
Shalom
cofty,
I'm sure there's a sweet spot somewhere where Bible and science can live in peace together. I'm certainly not anti-science and I never thought science is wrong just because it appears to conflict with the Bible in some areas. I've always concluded that:
a) Our interpretation of the Bible is wrong; or
b) The scientific knowlege still isn't the definitive truth of the matter.
Even in my university years that was never an issue to me. Thank you for the biliography references, I'll give it a chance when I can.
But in any case, I asked your opinion about the "Gap Theory". Any thoughts?
Eden
Even in my university years that was never an issue to me - EdenOne
And yet you are publishing articles that assume a literal Adam and Eve.
I asked your opinion about the "Gap Theory"
Young Earth Cereationism is a special brand of delusion. The "gap theory" tries to improve the credibility by allowing for an old earth but still insisting on special creationism. Its a bit like giving up belief in the tooth fairy but holding on to Santa Clause.
Humans evolved form non-human ancestors over millions of years. This is the difinitive truth.
The scientific knowlege still isn't the definitive truth of the matter....
Sorry Eden, time and time again the discoveries of science have just proved the bible just plain WRONG! The bible apologists that scramble to readjust their interpretation to fit science are fighting a never ending battle, it seem strange the bible's author, by inspiration, was so bad at explaining himself. Unfortunately the ambiguity of biblical explaniations allows the rise of idiots like Ken Ham who spout lies and deception to try and justify the unjustifiable.
I would be than happy to put science to the test against any scriptural "truth" you may wish to discuss. I am so looking forward to your posting limits to be removed.
As every school-boy knows - The Tree of Life has been use as a symbol in mythology for thousands of years before it was adopted in Genesis, meaning beginning. It is part of ledged and folklore as are many Bible stories written by people who were not born at the time they wrote their accounts of what happened, and had no witnesses, reference books, scrolls, or even google to consult. That’s one neat trick!
As far as I know the Earth originally had no atmosphere containing oxygen. All the air we breathe has come from trees converting Carbon dioxide for hundreds of millions of years. Naturaly the tree is seen as a symbol of life, as without trees we would not be here. If don’t Adam & Eve it, why not look it up.
AGuest
a very fascinating explanation of the tree of life, tkgb and Jesus.
I myself had concluded in the past that Adam and Eve HAD already consumed of the Tree of LIfe, and had to continuously do so in order to remain eternal. It WAS in fact the other Tree (and only tree) that was off limits.
What of the releasing of Satan after a thousand years? how does this event develop?
