    Gee, if I could be 19 again I would NOT be wasting 3 days in a religious retreat. My suggestion: make better use of yours and your friend's time and go to a music festival instead. Better time and money spent :)

    If you go is like going from bad to worse. Jumping from the frying pan into the fire. But at end, that's up to you.

    I think since you are still dealing with leaving the Witnesses,I think it best you stay home. Maybe explain to your friend,that you are in a vulnerable state right now,and prefer to research other religions when you have a clearer head in the matter.

    And I have to agree with what others have said,and for me personally,if I was going to pick a restrictive religion,of the two,I'd rather stay a Witness,than go Pentecostal.

    Sounds like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

    (Just saw where wolfman said the identical thing. There ya go. TWO WITNESSES.)

    3 days? Sounds like 2 days and 23 hours too many, if you ask me.

    Because if you're 15 minutes into this retreat and you want to go home because it tastes like just another flavor of cult, this setup will make it hard for you to just walk away.

    Frying pan -> fire!

    I’ve a little experience with Pentecostals during my ‘rebellious’ youth. They will claim miracles that never happen but in exaggeration and urban myth, utter “prophecies” that won’t come true, promote a fundamentalists mindset, discourage thinking, and encourage a person to give in to pure emotionalism. A Pentecostal schoolfriend told me, “Don’t think. Just believe.”

    I believe many Pentecostals are under mind control, as much, if not more than the JWs. Speaking in tongues can be a thought-stopping technique. And hearing about retreats reminds me of the indoctrination Steven Hassan went through when he joined the Moonies.

    If you are inclined toward Christianity, why not check out something in a mainline Protestant church?

    Thank you everyone.

    I just wanted to say that maybe the Pentecostals in my country are different to what you all are accustomed too. If i thought that they were so uptight i wouldn't even think about going. In my country, they are very easy going and play a lot of music. lol.........Maybe i'm just making up excuses because i really want to go but i know that you all are right.

    It will be nice to see if the have love among themselves. Also, i haven't read my Bible or prayed much since realising the truth about JW'S. Maybe this will give me some motivation to do it and try to get to know God. (Yes, i do believe in God)

    I just really want to see how they are.
