Actually, if it was really true, it wouldn't be useful, anyway, because there is nothing anybody could do. The more people that knew, the more panic and pandemonium there would be. People really would be better off in blissful, boring ingnorance, up until when they were wiped out.

    Once there was a cushitess

    among the thistle and thorns

and on her head she sprouted

    Two pointy little horns.

To dear Sab (peace to you!) - just curious: wouldn't it depend on the size of the comet... or other "body"... as to whether something COULD be done or not? Not trying to be provocative, truly. Just thinking, in light of dear jgnat's linked graphic. I know that the movie "Armageddon" suggests blowing up such an object in the hopes that maybe only smaller piece(s) might make impact. I'm just wondering, though, if, say, some cosmological event caused, say, a pluto-sized moon or something to go off course and come to be on a crash course with earth...

Is man able to forestall EVERY potential disaster that comes his way? Right now, we can't always avoid the devastation and casualities of events on and as a result of our own planet (earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, volcanos, etc.). If we can't yet avoid those... do we TRULY have the capability to avoid the impact... or resultant devastation of a sizeable comet?

BTW - Anyone who thinks most governments/science aren't already prepared (as much as possible) to save CERTAIN lives (those THEY think are of "value") in the event of a global catastrophe... is fooling himself/herself. Those preparations began during the Cold War (if not before) and the fall of the Berlin Wall didn't end it. Not by a stretch.

But seriously curious, dear Sab. What if nothing COULD be done? Isn't it possible that such a situation COULD exist?

    Peace!

I think that if the government knew that a comet was coming to end the world (meaning, cannot be stopped, nothing can be done), they would keep that a secret for as long as they could to avoid the panic and pandemonium mentioned in this thread.

I don't think censorship was even an issue in this discussion, dear Rip (peace to you!). Or perhaps you misunderstand the word and mean "self-censorship"... which has a different meaning? Self-censorship, however, is a means to AVOID danger... to oneself/one's loved ones.

Back to the thread title, though, there is some information that might be shared with some... and so IS useful... to them... while not being shared with others... because it ISN'T useful to THEM. Many look at that as sharing "on a need to know basis." Meaning, those who NEED to know are informed and those who don't... aren't.

    "Nice" poem, though...

    Peace!

    A doulos of Christ,

I don't think God put us on this planet to be ravaged by natural disasters. I think that our brains have always had the capability to avoid all forms of natural disasters. When we are killed by them it means we have failed to properly prepare for them. To assume there are disasters of which are unavoidable gives God a bad name. I don't believe he just ploppled us in a misleadingly dangerous environment, that would be cruel and unjust. There are no problems that lack a human solution despite what anyone says. If a comet comes it will be a test for humanity, one that we can pass or fail.

There are flying space objects larger than the earth and if something like that was coming straight for us we'd have no hope. It just doesn't make sense to me that God would go through the trouble of creating the earth and it's people only to then obliterate it. Ending all life on earth like that would render our entire timeline essentially useless. Genesis 1 has very clear language as to the purpose of the earth. We are supposed to subdue it and if that was never actually possible then that makes God a liar. There's always something that can be done, we just have to use our God-given brains and cooperate with each other. If we choose to act stupid and isolate ourselves from others, the natural world will be the final check and balance.

This has been the theme of dozens of end-time movies. I don't buy it. Emergency preparadeness agencies work hard to give as much notice as possible. There's plenty that people can do on their own to prepare.

In the meantime... LOVIN' your "show" of "peace."

Peace in no way requires anyone to accept, agree or put up with your posts, personal attacks or opions you dishonestly claim as fact. It simply means, for me, I will not stoop to engage in the personal attacks and fights you attempt to start and thrive on. Please attempt to de-rail someelse's thread, It's not welcome here.
