It Appears The Elderly Are More Taken Care Of Then Ever Before By The Elders

I usually find fault with the religion but I must give credit when due. In the Hall my mom is in, they regularly check on her and assign different ones to visit and check on the elderly.

If there's a storm or an extremely cold day, they come by to make sure the elderly have everything they need.

I wonder if that is just a local thing with her hall ?

It doesn't seem to be regular scheduled function at my Wife's hall.

As far as I know nothing is in print to encourage this sort of program on a scheduled basis.

By the way, years ago, I believe the aged and infirm were pretty much left alone for themselves. I heard the Society sent letters to the elders telling them to get a "program" to assist those in need.

Since the "new" ones becoming less and less, baptisms decreasing, etc., they'll have more time to take care of each other, especially for their increasing numbers of aging. I know, even years ago, those (including me) that were counting time on inactive elderly, in nursing home. Can't say that I regret that either; she had nothing/nobody else.

I've certainly seen elders be caring towards the elderly ones and visit them regularly. I imagine it varies by Hall and whether some of the elders are setting a good example for others to follow.

It absolutely does vary by KH.

When I was in the club, the instructions were that the body of elders would be asked by the Circuit Overseer each visit if they have a "shepherding program". If they say "Yes" then he ticks it off the box and moves on.

Wanna guess how many elder bodies say "No, we don't really have a shepherding program..." when he asks that question?

that is very nice, minimus - but is a local thing - some care, some don't - i really have observed more that neglect than care.....but then again - depends on who you are, who you are related to, etc. very subjective usually...

It sounds like this congregation has some good guys - and they just happen to be elders.

The organization should have to look after the elderly as they were the ones that told them to give them all their money and go pioneering.

How else are they to get property willed to them?
