Oh Yes. My politics aside, the very real personal sacrifices each person in uniform and their family make each day is astounding. They are courageous. And I dont just mean the military, but any offier including police and firemen. I have a great deal of respect for them.

Every time I see one of our veterans or hear of someone who has served in the military, I go up to them and extend my hand and thank them for helping to protect me and fighting for our freedoms. There have been a few times when doing so has started a chain reaction in a store, where others have overheard and joined in to thank the person.

Many of our service people have quite literally been through hell and back, and politics aside, I just couldn't let the opportunity to thank them pass by without expressing my gratitude.

I likewise have expressed the same gratitude to Firefighters.

Shortly after 9/11, there was a scare that the Three Mile Island nuclear plan in Pennsylvania might be attacked. I saw military jets flying all over the place. For the first time in my life, I was grateful they were there, protecting me and mine. That feeling has not gone away.

When you think about it , it`s hard to comprhend WT theology on the subject. The OT is full of accounts where jehovah sanctions the armies of his chosen people to put to death thousands of people , and not just military people , but man woman and child by the sword .I wonder if any jehovah`s witness ever stops to think what it would be like to put to death another human being by running a sword through them. And where is the logic of an almighty loving GOD instructing imperfect humans to carry out this barbaric deed .Sorry if I have deviated from the topic .

Yes ,I do appreciate the military, just think of the alternative if christian/democratic nations never had one ,not a world I would like to live in and I`m sure no JW would like to live in one either .

When I came home from Nam (Vietnam) walking thru LA airport,

I never felt so bad, the stares I received, 1968. After serving my

two years, I got rid of all my military stuff (my awards, uniform etc.)

Around 1999 a young co-worker walked up to me one day and said,

I heard you served in Vietnam, I would like to thank you for your service.

The first time anyone thank me for serving.

Over the years I have talked to many vets, and let me tell you, we

do appreciate it. The first thing a vet will say to another vet, I happy

to see you made it back. It really mean a lot to the young men returning

    today.

Did they ever have a situation involving an early christian who was a soldier? Yes of course, Cornelius. My dad said that the bible never addresses his association with the Roman Army. I said, "Absolutely, don't you think if it was an issue they would have addressed it." They could have left the fact he was an officer completely out of the narrative, but they didn't. They didn't order Cornelius to leave the military in order to become a Christian.

There is a hell of a lot less "evidence" to ban birthday parties, than there is to allow for military service.

The basis for banning birthdays is that the two times a birthday is mentioned someone dies, and thus (1 Corinthians 10:11) . . .Now these things went on befalling them as examples, and they were written for a warning to us . . .

Somehow they forget: (1 Corinthians 4:6) . . .Do not go beyond the things that are written. . .

Defiant, looks like your Dad was resonable and got the point.
